Does anyone actually still pay with a card and not their phone or watch?
biglaugh

I wish those that didn't use a card would! It's been a while since I travelled into the office but I don't miss being held up at the tube barriers by people trying to use a phone or watch to get through. Slow to register, slow to access, nightmare.

You know what, think I'll invent a wafer thin, super lightweight bit of plastic, acceptable anywhere, limitless payments and doesn't run out of battery laugh.

+1. i cannot stand apple users who use their phone for everything. they might think its great, but they inconvience others.

as a londoner i use a normal oyster card. it scans instantly. phones? nope. because

1- it takes afew extra seconds
2- the idiot with the phone doesn't unlock it until they stand infront of the barriers.

Me with my oyster card, I have it ready in my hand for when I need to swipe. With my arm out stretched, by the time i swipe my oystercard the barrier is opened and I seamlessly go through.

No, that’s just the thick people who don’t know how to set a card up as an Express Travel card on their phone.

Amazing how many people will believe 'Sorry, the contactless is broken' just like the coffe machine breaks after 10pm on a friday or saturday night wink

Or our local takeaways that only accept cash for smaller orders as "accepting cards takes up the phone line for orders"... like they couldn't have a low cost mobile phone with data and any of the many payment systems. I don't mind paying their payment costs but that isn't the issue...

Although it is also surprising how many times the broken contactless machine suddenly starts working again when you tell them you can only pay contactless and if they won’t take payment then you don’t want the drinks they have just poured or the food you have come to collect.

You really cant accept that you are in a stubborn minority .
What would you do for payment if the card machine is actually broken when you get to the shop ?

Last time that happened to me was at a curry house. It was hammering down with rain and no one wanted to head out to a cash point. Manager found a dusty one of these in the storage area. Makes you realise how convenient contactless is.

There's one near me that still advertises as cash only.
As far as contactless goes for tipping I don't think I've ever been given the machine at that stage in this country, only ever the tap your card/ enter your PIN point.
I manage a sumup card reader and don't think it has an option to tip by default, it might be somewhere in the strings it I went to look for it.

Go next door and shop, because 99% of the time I don’t have my wallet with me.

I normally avoid places that only take cash. I don’t mind notes, but carrying coins around is a pain.

I can see why as Currys is the most generic.

PC World - Very few people actually use PCs now.
Carphone Warehouse - Ask your kids if they know what a Carphone is/was.
Team Knowhow - This was their service/support division. Guess it will be rebranded?
Dixons Carphone - I though this was a corporate identity created when they bought CPW?

Team Knowhow is going as well - so they will have brand consistency through the sales/service journey.

Correct - Dixons Carphone was the overarching corporate identity. It was a merger of equals rather than a buyout of CPW, however given that ultimately CPW has disappeared from the high street both in the UK and RoI and now the name is going it is hard to look back as see it as that.

They can call them whatever they like, many people will still avoid them.

I'd never heard of team Knowhow. Was it inside stores on online? For some reason in my mind, Currys was always the 'cheapest' brand and yet it seems to have triumphed (sort of).

It will be 9 years this December that Comet bowed out

I'd forgotten about Comet. Surprised it's only been 9 years. I remember them very much as a 1990s brand.
