This type of accident will recur again in future.

If I were the parents. I would paint big eff off 10 foot arrows on the Tarmac every 30 yards or so on the correct side of the road for the first two or three hundred metres from the exit of the base. If the council remove them, I'll be straight back the next night painting them. If I get arrested doing this, I'll explain why I'm doing it and it will get more media atention.
If I didn't have the bottle to do this, I'll petition the council to do it.

Then repeat it outside all US bases in the UK.

Look at aerial images of the bases. All US bases in the UK drive on the left. There is very, VERY little excuse for this woman to have been driving on the wrong side of the road.
Since when, when I used to deliver to an US airbase (that is now closed) I used to have to drive on the right once inside

I hear what people are saying, but everyone makes mistakes and your mind can revert you to 'habit' at any time for no apparent reason.

My wife did the same thing, albeit without an accident thankfully. She once turned out of the post office car park in our village and simply drove off down the wrong side of the road, I was in the passenger seat but reading a message on my phone at the time, and it was only when I looked up and shouted that she steered back onto the left, but even then she was confused at why I was shouting 'Left side of the road!'.

She had driven round a tight corner in the process and it was just pure luck there was nothing coming the other way at that moment.

She is from the EU, but had been living and driving in the UK for several years at that point. This was years ago, and she hasn't done it since (to my knowledge) but it just shows it can happen.
What he said

Driven/ridden in the UK for 36 years, then moved to France.

After living here for 7 years, last year I pulled out of a junction and for whatever reason I defaulted the driving on the left for about 5 seconds or so before realising what I'd done.

By all means call for heavy sentencing, but at the same time be prepared for you, your significant other or your kids to be prosecuted to the same level you've called for if they are unfortunate enough to make a momentary mistake whilst in their hire car on holiday and end up getting arrested.

You can't have it both ways.
Or for you, your significant other or your kids to be killed by someone like this.
Put yourself in Harry’s parents shoes-this woman just fked off back to America after killing their child through her own negligence.
She treated them with utter contempt.Shame on her.

I’ve been going to Croughton for 20 years and they’ve always driven on the left on base.

You just got lucky and didn’t meet Oliver coming the other way, it would have been a fine mess he would’ve got you into.

Must admit I have no idea what the expected sentencing range is for this but I assumed it would be more than a few months suspended.
Causing death by careless driving has a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

In 2020, 120 offenders were sentenced for this offence. A suspended sentence order was ordered in 39% of cases, immediate custody in 31%. A further 25% received a community order, 4% received a fine and 1% were recorded as ‘otherwise dealt with.'

In 2020, the average custodial sentence length for this offence was 1 year.

So, bail is granted, what's the betting she goes home to US for Xmas and doesn't come back....?

She's had to surrender her passport, so shouldn't be going anywhere.

"The US Air Force had asserted jurisdiction in the case."

Do they honestly think they have any right to jurisdiction over what happens on the roads in England? Arrogant pricks.

From memory they tried to claim she was on duty, so it was their jurisdiction, turned out she was in civvies and off duty and off camp so the judge had none of it.

Yep. The fact she fled, knowing what had happened surely is a criminal offence in it's self? The mind boggles at how she has got off so lightly. As mentioned the prick US authorities had a lot to do with it. If I were the parent I'd have to stop myself from firebombing the military base.

This is the result of being hit head on @ speed on the correct side of the road, on my immaculate R1, by a lying half wit b, who had recently been on Holliday to America. Just how I survived the first impact, is beyond me, I reckon my Dad was looking down on me.
She moved her Merc to the correct side of the road, before the ambulance and plod arrived and subsequently lied her head off and mocked me in Southend court. She was given a £975 fine and 5 penalty points. I was regally shafted by the “ specialist no win no fee biker solicitors that I was duped into giving the case to.....

Let's see if she ever makes it to Court, i am saying no, there will be compassionate reason they need to repatriate her never to return.

wow - you were very lucky and as you said perhaps being looked after.

I know its wrong but if that happened to me I would want some revenge. Im sure family/friends may talk me out of it but injustices like this really get to me.
