Interesting that every instance of uprising in the last few years where the 'people' have overthrown the Government has gone from being all great in Americas eyes to a complete nightmare and annoyance for them.

Perhaps they should start realising they should be careful what they wish for.
The policy of stability above all else didn't run smoothly either.

Isn't a national President scrapping a reasonably long standing regional Parliament and banning the official use of the language that the majority of the population in an area speak a little undemographic?
Didnt the crimeans do it first, thrusting a pro-russian in charge?

And, don't forget that the west of the country also has adopted languages in the form of Romanian and Hungarian.

The only thing that is clear at this stage is no-one is telling the whole truth.

Indeed. Even the Falklanders concede that the easiest thing to have done would have been to send a few Argentine girls over to work on the Islands.
Well quite, a bunch of farmers on a windswept god forsaken rock in the South Atlantic and a huge nation of mostly beautiful people (IME)... if they laid on a free weekend in BA for the islanders the Falklands would be theirs in no time!

It's certainly working in for the Muslims here in the 'West'.

I posted on PH many years ago that demographic changes in the UK showed that given a certain date (I forget when now) indigenous UK persons would be a minority. (Do I need to clarify what I mean by indigenous?)

Well since the majority of the population in Crimea are Russian that their leader is Russian shouldn't be a surprise. Meanwhile they have a long established mechanism of having regional languages but they have all, apparently, beed scrapped now and everything has to be in Ukrainian.

I don't claim to be an expert it just all seems a bit more complicated than it might otherwise appear.

I quite agree, though the timeline is suspect. The sudden dissolution, followed by the appointment of someone who immediately shouted for Russia to "assist"

Ach, these things are always a clusterfk with little better than lies and half truths from both sides. Fingers crossed it sorts itself out before anyone gets shot.

Absolutely, it's a game and most of the parties don't have clean hands.

Russia says decision by UK & its coalition of the willing to boycott G8 talks is not helpful for relations.

They do have a point - should have waited and kept diplomatic dialogue open.

Boo boo. Invading a sovereign nation is hardly conducive for international relations. They can't have it both ways.

Having a permanent seat on the UN security council does mean that you can be a little more forthright and forceful as they can take petty revenge on anyone who picks the wrong side

Knowing the type of people who like to live on remote, bleak islands the Falklanders would probably have run straight past the beautiful Spanish and Italian decendents straight for the big fat German ones and their sausage dogs. Still, mission accomplished.

Joey, my wife is Russian, has 2 degrees, Masters's, worked in Oxford Uni, speaks 5 languages better than you speak English and has more cultural understanding of the world than I guess you could imagine; judging by your drivel. Around 12 doctors in her family practicing all over the world, 4 classical musician's (Mariinsky theatre). She has many friends, professors, doctors, ambassadors and the like, all Russian. All the Russian's I meet are all of similar standing. Please, for your sake educate yourself a little about these drunk, feckless peasants before unleashing such nonsense.

The problem is, mate, that your wife could be Cuban, or Pakistani, or a Kazakh, snd she could make precisely the same claims. It wouldn't invalidate my own claim that those countries are unappealing global actors, are economically and politically corrupt, as well as generally undesirable places to reside.

Here's a quick test for you. Seeing as Russia is a virtual paradise, stuffed to the gills with doctors, diplomats, professors and musicians, each with 2 degrees from Oxford (and one from Cambridge just for luck), as well as speaking 9 languages, please account for how such an extravagantly well educated population enjoys a per capita income around a quarter of that of a thick, uncultured, uneducated, monolingual American.

And then ask yourself how many people want to actually migrate TO Russia. The answer, by the way, is none.

Tell that to the 255 British dead, 649 Argie dead. Wasn't a farce to them.
