First up I am genuinely sorry for anyone caught up in this. It seems almost as callous as other attacks as it seems to have been targeted at people leaving the mosque. This is cowardly and no one should have to see stuff like this happening. People like this do not speak for me or people that I know
It seems as well that people from the mosque or in the crowd behaved with great dignity and arrested the man, holding him until the police came. This is testament to their dignity and bravery in the situation. These people are to be commended for their actions and I would hope they are recognised for this.
Secondly as if the Police simply didn't have enough on their bloody hands at the moment this sort of crap is just yet more pressure on a police force that are doing the best they can.
Thirdly if Mrs May feels she can control the agenda of issues in the UK I fear she is badly ,completely wide of the mark. Just as the focus in the news was starting to shift towards Brexit negotiations this happens. This country is in dangerous times.
Day of Rage, hysterical media, hot weather, weak PM, Trotski opposition, divided communities, demanding population, knee-jerk reaction and leadership in sound-bites. What could possibly go wrong? It seems as well that people from the mosque or in the crowd behaved with great dignity and arrested the man, holding him until the police came. That's not actually true at all and has become the latest urban myth. You do not have to provide your NINO. Instead you log in to your online DL page and create a public link to third parties to view specific parts of your driving licence. You then give the link to people such as the car hire company so that they can check your licence is valid, any endorsements and basic details of your identity.
Depends on the rental company - some will insist on the code in advance, others will let you log on from the rental desk and do the details there. Certainly when I've been holding training sessions for rental operatives, it is advised that they tell customers to bring in their licence, two forms of ID within the last 3 months and their NI number. I know the vehicle hire company in question are likely to complete the paperwork this way - they get a lot of walk-in trade and retail customers who do not pre-book that far in advance.
It's probably a moot point though - police have got the information they need from the hire company bar a few written statements, but it's probably going to be a while before PVH get their van back.

I wonder what pushes people like this into it?
So you don't think its in direct response to Westminster or London Bridge attacks, but press coverage of halal and burka type stuff ? Interesting theory. I'm saying that the red tops have provided a bedrock where the people last night are considered legitimate targets. The same thing happens with propaganda on the other side creating a narrative that "The West hates us" and we're all Kuffar and therefore the enemy. He didn't try to kill jihadis last night, just wanted to attack Muslims.

When do you give an NI number to hire a vehicle?
Since the paper counterpart of the licence was removed, it is now needed for the online driving licence check for endorsements.https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
Surprised DVLA dont know that bit in any case that site is for you to check,
not for you to give your number for someone else to check
If we're not careful there'll be a black market in NI numbers

You shouldn't give your NI number to anyone other than your employer, it cant be used as a form of ID

The DVLA don't say to give it to the renter - but you should use it to generate a code.Surprised DVLA dont know that bit in any case that site is for you to check,

"create a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire company"

As well as many others who are at the forefront of most other terror attack threads. Conspicuously absent in words or condemnation. For those thinking this is inevitable because of the Manchester and London attacks, I fear you are right. Many nutters will jump to a cause. The thoughts and retribution are no different to those in earlier terror attacks. Killing innocent people is always going to disenfranchise people. And some are stupid and nutty enough to channel the anger into killing other innocent people.
