I'd go with "teenage prostitutes try and shake down Epstein for money in light of #metoo giving them the impression they are not responsible for their own decisions". Because they might have been under 18 at some stage in the "grooming" there might be a point of law but IMO they are taking the piss. I haven't watched the Netflix documentary but I did listen to a podcast about this. The "victims" on that were a joke. Even if I 100% believed their story, as portrayed by them, they are having a laugh. One of them said that she was given loads of money for college and a job and one time JE tried it on with her (he tried to hold her hand OMG!). She told him to bugger off. Then after that, her sister was working for JE and he tried it on with HER!! She told him to bugger off, that was the end of it. The first sister said she felt bad, for not telling her sister what a beast JE was but she didn't get a chance because (after the hand holding terror) she was on a 1 year study abroad program in Thailand and didn't get the chance. Guess who paid for the year long holiday? She didn't seem to have a problem with that, but 20 years later "OMG I was horrifically groomed and abused. Can I have some more money now please?" That's the victims poster girl? Do me a favour.
In light of lots of complainants, this is a pretty bold statement to make.
I'd say extrapolating from the money grabbing stories of a bunch of middle aged skanks, to "OMG Donald Trump raped a 13yr old" is the real bold move.

I've got a big sense of deja vu from the good old Jimmy Saville days. We started with
-"he fingered me behind the set at top of the pops and I was only 15, can i have some money now please?"
and it was a quick hop step jump to
-"we will believe your stories and not even question them ladies, come one come all, free money" finishing up at
-"he raped a 7 year old boy and was running an elite peadophile ring".

That didn't end well for a lot of people, such as Harvey Proctor, who did nothing wrong.
Almost heroically misinformed.

Have you been accussed of sexual assault? Seems you've got an axe to grind.

Top tip - do more to acquaint yourself with the facts. Y’know, maybe more than just listening to a podcast,

It’ll save you a good deal of embarrassment in the long run.

On the assumption that underage sex did occur:

I'm not sure the actions of the 14-year-olds mitigate the offences in any way. If any sex or sexual assaults were against their will, then a whole new class of offence is opened.

The argument of money grabbing women who are making things up, the same sort of accusations occurred with regards the Savile complainants and, to trump that by numbers, those who complained of being abused by various priests in the catholic churches around the world.

If, by the considerable number of quotes you used in your first post, you are suggesting they are telling lies, particularly that they are not victims, then why not?

All on the assumption that underage sex assaults did occur.

I'm not sure what the, if you'll excuse the quotes, "middle aged skanks" is meant to suggest.

I would have thought you, of all people, would be a big fan of those good old fashioned concepts of "due process" and "innocent until proven guilty".

Pretty rich considering the way you've completely dismissed and also personally insulted the accusers.

Having watched the NF documentary (which is more focused on JE than GM) it seemed like a very sick pyramid scheme was being run

So one girl would recruit a girl for 'massage services' and receive a fee, and so on.
I think in their eyes being a 'recruiter' would remove them from the front line so to speak. Better the 'new girl' doing the massage than them.

I would guess GM would add some credibility - a 50 year old geezer can't exactly take a bunch of teenage girls shoe shopping at the local mall. Presumably played a role in recruitment as well.

Sounds like FBI have known for a while but been building a case.

Would like to think justice will be done.

Seems that's how it works sometimes in modern slavery, the exploited can become exploiters themselves. So is the person being prosecuted a victim or a perp.?

I still think it’s worth reading a contrary view, however biased it may be. I think Epstein was a complete scumbag, but that doesn’t mean his (or Maxwell’s) accusers claims should not be tested and verified.

Dershowitz strikes me as being thoroughly untrustworthy, but he is quite right to say Maxwell deserves a fair trial.

Let's hope she remains alive long enough to get one.

Odd he doesn't mention the fact he was Epstein's lawyer, or received 'massages' himself - but it was OK, he kept his pants on.

He is correct though that she should revice a fair trial - with all the evidence availabe presented, and people like him cross-examined.

Not moronic, just uninformed.

I would be surprised if there were no element of some of the girls being swayed to make bad decisions by the lifestyle, travel, glamour opportunities Epstein held out. And some others who knew the score, were happy to go along with it, and who might now see an opportunity to make some money. But some others, who were underage and vulnerable, and were complete victims.

In plain language, a (potential financial) stitch-up ?

Because Dershowitz is clearly going to say 'yeah I nonced all those kids and laughed it up with Ghislaine and old boy Jeff' isn't he?

Of course he's gonna deny it.

But why would he go to Lolita Island all those times eh?
