Israel never invaded Palestine, it was handed to them by the British who controlled it, when Israel was created.
We didn't hand it to them, as the Israeli's declaration of an independent State of Israel within hours of the ending of the British Mandate, the ending of which as voted for by the United Nations.........at which point was the first day of the first Arab-Israeli War.

My father was there in 1946-47 with the British Army, and he always felt a little sorry for the Palestinians (despite getting shot at by them as well as by the Jewish groups) as he told me years ago, many of the Palestinians, while not liking the British being there, were more fearful of what would happen to them once the British left.

More and more videos coming out... some of it seriously graphic - I cant see them doing anything other than a full invasion of Gaza in response.
If not that then bomb the living &&&& out of it for the next week.

There is a live stream over Gaza on youtube for those interested.

Seeing some of the horrific images I honestly don’t think there will be a Gaza in a few weeks time, Israel is going to go in hard

Wars often become contagious.

What might be the wider repercussions?

No doubt. Biden can come over on his hands and knees and Israel will tell him where to go.

Going back to this being pre-planned and well planned in advance by outside influences......

The same “item” of consequence used in Ukraine devoid of a viscous coating ?

I imagine there is one word on many Israeli minds currently, Nakam.

A good question. Nothing good is going to emerge, most likely.

I get the feeling that some of the posters on here are licking their lips in anticipation at the punishment that the Israelis are going to hand out to the Palestinians.

Yep, UN/western powers have made Israel bend over backwards to accommodate the Palestinian Authority. All Israel wants is for HAMAS and the like to disarm and stop attacking Israelis.

Somehow this translates into Israel always being the bad guy and an "oppressor". If anyone has a boot on the Palestinian people, it's HAMAS who's refused to hold elections since 2006.

Despite the attacks, if the Palestinians downed their arms the west would ensure Israel comply with the terms.

HAMAS are showing that they are just a terrorist group with delusions of grandeur, not a legitimate government. The sad thing is, after all the killing is done I cant see anything else but status quo ante bellum.

Bunch of kids, dying for the arrogance of old men, nihil sub sole novum (nothing new under the sun).

Are you all really that naive? The Palestinians aren’t getting a state whatever they do. Invading Israel not going to help either.

I can't understand how they were driving round picking people off/taking hostages in Israel without immediate retaliation within minutes on the ground.

What were the commanders doing?

As for licking lips in anticipation? There are going to be alot of innocent deaths on both sides for a long time to come. This is utterly appalling. Israel is on my list of must places to visit frown

Simchat Torah, it's a public holiday in Israel today. Its clear this was a well organised attack meant to catch the Israelis with their pants down.

But yeah, intel seriously dropped the ball.

As for the licking of lips, I'm only seeing that on the side of the people trying to pretend Hamas are the good guys in this. When you go in and start killing civilians, that's casus belli in anyone's language.

If the Palestinians went the Gandhi route of non-violent resistance? It would take time for the Israelis to trust them, of course. But there'd be next to no incursions to deal with terrorist plots. It might be 10 years, or 20, or even 50. But the Palestinians would get a state.

Israel's government can't turn the other cheek to stuff like this. Groups like Hamas take any sign of weakness and push further. If they downed their weapons, well, we've seen what would happen today. And, of course, every time something like this happens, Israelis move further to the right.

Peace doesn't suit the likes of Abbas, siphoning millions off international aid for his personal palace, or Hamas, whose entire raison d'etre is the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Jews, of course. Whereas Israelis want to live their lives in peace, whether that's achieved by military domination, or partnership.
