Bye Bye BHS and Austin Reed?
Discussion
Why bother? The reason bhs did badly is because no one shopped there because of the poor stock choice, the home stuff was nice but it was so over priced, John Lewis was cheaper for better quality. It was such a odd market place.
Although I did get a rather lovely concrete lamp from there for £60, which I still think was steep

No surprise they are large anchor stores, even 10 years ago they would have been hard to fill. Apart from Primark,Matalan and John Lewis not many others could fill the space (and i think JL has scaled back new stores), the others that could already own a large format store.
Who took over he space C&A left when they collapsed in the 90's?Welshbeef said:

Primark ?
Logical - I was just a bit too young I think and didn't live close to C&A when it ended so personally cannot recall. Oddly when I was in South Africa we spotted C&A stores plus Woolworths

C&A only pulled out of the UK. They can be seen quite widely across Europe.
So you have a potential who could make a UK comeback to take up some of the stores?"BHS owner Dominic Chappell prosecuted by Pensions Regulator "

BHS pasty prosocuted.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/08/22/bhs...
The staff of BHS I feel sorry for and I have no love for PG and IMO Chappell is just a chancer.
That apart this whole saga is a nonsense.
Many other "respectable" companies have large pension deficits.
The big mistake PG made was in "dropping the balls" i.e. He didn't keep his eye on the ball and sold BHS when it was still a credible company.
He left it too late and could only sell it to a patsy,he even lent Chappell money to complete the deal.
The whole thing stinks but there are rarely the regulations in place to hook the big fish.
Governments and large corporations collude to make it so,the darker side of Capitalism.

Wonder how much he’s fined?
