I'm just applying their logic.

Bond is white
I'd say Bond WAS written as a white male character.

He could quite easily be written as a black male character the next time.
I think Elba would probably make a superb Bond, however I would expect the offended students would to want to preserve the character's cultural integrity.
Or maybe not...

Off topic, but Elba would be a crap Bond. His performance in Pacific Rim was dire. Nowt to do with his skin colour though. A black Bond could work very nicely indeed.

Bond is white, it would be an attempt at "blackwashing" if you follow their logic.

That said I think he'd make a bloody excellent Bond.
Does he have to be white though? Apart from the unlikelihood of a black man getting into that sort of privileged position when the books were written. What particularly marks him out as a white man?
If you have to aks.....

hehe
If I have to what?

This Exactly!! There are no so many 'Professional 'Offendees' Tweeting / Facebooking and on behalf of someone else It's Stupid, as are they!!
Even Robbie Williams appearance on Norton and his song Party Like a Russian is now 'Racist' even though a Russian Journalist and Activist takes no offence and thinks it's 'courageous'. (don't buy his records by the way, but did think his story of being t*ssed off by a stranger in a castle was funny!)

I really wish this would go away as an argument. Just because you can find one person who says something's not offensive doesn't mean the thing is then not offensive.

And just because a handful of people on facebook or twitter are offended they don't represent the views of everyone

So we're agreed then. People taking indiviual anecdotal evidence of offense as proof of something's offensiveness is dumb?

Put someone in a tux and a martini, have them chase a villain with an unusual tic and you've got a Bond film.

Change the name to Jane Bond and a woman could do it.
Or a man who identifies as a woman.

Or a man who identifies as a woman of colour. In a wheelchair.

God, its a minefield this political correctness.

TBH the Bond character has become such an archetype anyone could play him.

The latest thing to cause offence is the Daily Mail's front page because folks deem it sexist.

"A Daily Mail front page that declared “Never mind Brexit, who won Legs-it!” next to a photograph of Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon and British prime minister Theresa May has prompted widespread outrage."

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/mar/28/dail...

Strange that the guardian were happy enough to publish the cartoon below without anyone moaning about sexism.

See though...you are offended that people didn't complain about one but the other. Because you I assume hate the Guardian and read the DM. But you are acting like the very snowflakes you chastise....

I doubt you can even see it because you think you can't be the people you despise because what you believe in is the truth to you. But to people in the center you are just as annoying with your moaning baout "well the Guardian are aloud to do stuff..whaa whaaaa."

So that's what the "10" means.

I don't think I've ever fully understood the concept of being offended.

You could call my mother a , call my Mrs a , and tell me you think I'm a , and then go on to say something completely horrific about my family, followed by being vile about everyone I know using the worst language possible, and I honestly wouldn't care.

I do understand why some people would class that sort of thing as 'being offensive', but I personally wouldn't be offended by it. I could pretend to be offended, but deep down I wouldn't care at all.

But then again I do work in the motor trade. I think that has quite an effect on you biggrin

Fair enough. Do you understand sexism, racism, homophobia etc? Edited to add that in many cases, the offence is because the issue in question is part of those bigger things.

But you would still have a limit, even if it is higher than most people's. There would be something that a person could say to you that would make you upset or angry.

Sorry, I forgot; this is PH, where for many/most those issues don't really exist. I'll get back to the real world.
