The Scottish Social Attitudes Survey showed 45% of respondents thought the amount of money being spent on Gaelic (£24m) was about right, while 16% said it was too little. 33% of respondents thought £24m to promote Gaelic was too much.
Ooooh, a survey. If Scotland had £24m to spend should we spend it on schools, roads, paying off debt, reducing dependence on food banks or propping up a dying language nobody speaks?
I know that's a loaded question but surveys tend to be skewed, and I would bet my house that Gaelic wouldn't reach a double figure percentage. Let it die.

Maybe because the EV sales stats whos that the £5K isn't a big enough initiative? Maybe because the Scottish government want to spearhead change?
So why are they not lobbying UK govt? Also which budget is being cut to pay for these additional green incentives? That's the key given SNP refuse to use the tax rising powers they have instead they wonder why they are in deficit when they spend more than they are given OR stop spending on the NHS or Food banks or whatever else to help people instead give the very well off a nice tax cut -

Why is it foolish? We have targets to reach on emmissions and we have slow uptake of electric cars so this low-cost initiative can perhaps crack both nuts to an extent. It's kick starting attitude changes. I suspect you have a rather naiive view of domestic finances too.
Your accusation of naivete is ironic. Electric cars produce their emissions by proxy along with lots of other environmentally unfriendly by-products, several of which are orders if magnitude worse than CO2.
IF I buy an electric car, it will be because I could save a lot of money on fuel - I drive 28K-30K miles per year in a 2l diesel whereas with a Tesla for instance, I could get ~300 miles for £10 worth of electricity at home or free charging elsewhere.
That's the driver for me (no pun intended). While I'm sympathetic to climate change that's not why I am considering an electric car just now.
Well, if you are "well aware of that", it makes your quoted statement above even more preposterous.
Waste of time interacting, ah'm oot.

The outlay is buttons (at governmental level) and the loss of investment is minimal at the rates the government will pay. But it's a good news story for rich consumers like me. I fully intend to sponge a cheap loan off the state even though I can afford to buy the car without it. Foodbanks be damned and hurrah for the SNP giving me more free stuff that I can well afford. Excellent for me.

And why are the instructions for my new TV in twelve different languages in the booklet included with UK TVs?!
This must be some sort of satire that's gone way over my head. But in the event that you're serious...TVs are made by businesses, not governments.
People have the choice to buy a TV, or not to.
TV manufacturers sell TVs in many different countries, not just one.
It's clearly cheaper to produce one book in different languages than several books in each language.
No TV (or any other) manual I've ever seen includes Gaelic in the range of languages offered. I don't need to explain why. Only the mental SNP could make a case for its inclusion.
Or in other words there's absolutely no similarity with the example being discussed.

You're paying forthat yourself it's your choice, how many UK tax payers want to pay for a language very few understand, how many want to pay for helicopter livery nobody can read.AstonZagato said:

You rightly pointed out that EVs aren't as environmentally friendly as one might think. I acknowledged that and said the key factor for me is fuel savings (and performance) rather than saving the planet and then you get all menstrual about my reply?!

A post from Facebook (United Against Separation) that shows how the SNP are politicising the police force
Text read..
This is our country, this is our police force, and this helicopter is paid for with our money. So I want to be able to read what it says on the side of it in my native mother tongue- being the primary language of this country, English.
It's this sort of nonsense from the SNP's policing wing, Police Scotland, which heightens concern the police service in Scotland has been politicised.
I have today emailed this photograph to Police Scotland demanding an explanation as to why a dead language only a tiny minority of people speaks is slapped on the side of this helicopter instead of the language you and I use and understand.
And I would encourage you to do likewise. The only way we are going to stop this nationalist nonsense is to stand up and speak up.
The word 'police' which you crave to read is easily seen on the helicopter. Text read..

Like it or not, there are Gaelic speakers in some parts of Scotland.
All over the UK there's evidence of things many of us disagree with.
I would wager.... less than 2.
Another vanity project.
Total arse gravy waste of money.
Or signs, leaflets, etc., in various foreign languages all across the UK?
Why should my council taxes be spent on people who refuse to learn the national language and fail to integrate in the slightest?
Why should my taxes be spent on translators for people who come to the UK with absolutely no idea or intent to speak English?
The list is endless, as is you and your ilk's ideas of wasting our money on vanity projects, whilst the disabled are being persecuted by this government to save money.
fk off!

If we believe that EVs are the way forward and if a government offers financial benefits (interest free loans in this case) to people prepared to move from ICEs to EVs then yes that's progressive.
Do you disagree?
So let's get this straightDo you disagree?
Teslas really are going to be bought by people pulling in what £150k as a couple min
I3 EV you'd need to be pushing £60k
So that includes what all of 0.5% of the working Scottish population ... Very progressive.
