Widford is also in the middle of nowhere, not particularly easy to get to any one station. there ain't much to do there really apart from look at all the planes going to and from Stansted (which you will get very familiar with).

I havent seen it, but on the face of it ticks lots of my boxes.

Tell me why its crap please. (i havent seen i in the flesh)
Hmm .. I wish I could swap my Zone 4 box for that .. ticks my boxes as well (detached, nice frontage and serious car storage space)
BUT it's a pain just to get to Bishop's Stortford, and then another 45 minutes to Liverpool Street station. There are better inaccessible places for the money - and that's before renovation costs.

Unfortunately most areas north of the a120 are intolerable for aircraft noise.

Nearly purchased a thatched cottage 5 years ago near molewood. Didn't in the end cos the roof was fked but the aircraft noise really can get bad in the summer.

Noel Gallagher has sold his house in London (leaving as his house had two housing estates on either side of the street, and gangs on each were stabbing one another).

According to papers, bought for £8 million in 2010 for the 5 bed, up for sale £11 million in 2016, was at £9 million in dec 2018 and then £8.5 million in Feb 2019, and apparently sold for £8m again (and lucky for him, someone he knew was looking to buy ).

‘For sale at a reduced cost with part ownership’ is becoming quite common now I think with some keen to release equity as they can’t sell.

Have noticed a few in my old area now popping up

He's got a really nice place in Chalfont St Giles (or did have) as a friend of a friend did some work on his house. Wonder if that's where he's off to?

Im work mayfair so it would be get to St Margrets, train to the victoria line then tube to green park, would be about 1.15 door to door i think. Which isnt too bad. Think i would brompton the 3 miles to station.

the car storage i would turn into an annexe and a 2/3 car garage. The house needs work but can be done, and knock off the "sun room" and build a proper addition.

You aren't far out on that commute time but I'd add another 5-10 minutes to that for locking up (or folding) the bike, and waiting for the overground and the tube. I have used that Hertford east line a lot and it's unfortunately very slow and unreliable. You also will struggle to get s seat depending on what time you get on the train- and it's not a line I would like to use late at night especially through the London part.

I still think they're being artificially supported by government schemes and part-buy which are both pushing leaseholds. Not that you have many other options especially in London but with greater public awareness of the problems of leaseholds, people could stick with renting.

Would make sense; leasehold is basically renting, but with a distinctly higher barrier to getting out.

Googled some pics of the house : nice ... but not 8m nice IMO. good location I guess.

think I’d rather spend 6m on a lovely house in South Bucks and have a 2m flat in London. (Would get something over 1500 ft2 in a good location?)

That is my answer to almost every London house.

I’d never buy a leasehold again, but I’ve never really seen it as being anything like renting.

I guess it varies on the terms of the lease, but I had one where the freeholder had virtually no control at all.

We paid £10 a year in ground rent, and when we decided to buy the freehold, the freeholder made less money out of it than his solicitor did.

I can’t imagine there are many leasehold flats that actually revert to the freeholder as the lease has expired, apart from the short lease stuff in prime central London.

The service charge and other expenses like insurance, and etc.. makes the leasehold a nightmare. My last flat ground rent jumped to 450 GBP annual, and service charge was raising every eyar, at least 5%. and you can't even get rid of or replace the management company, its all up to freeholders. The whole thing was a proper joke. I do know a few properties in Canary Wharf, service charge nearly 10k annually, and lease holders literally suffering. My first flat though, lease, no hassle at all, really low service charges and quite proper management, but the freeholder was corporation of London (City).
