Having paid good money to see Clapton at Harewood House a couple of years ago I was very disappointed by his performance and it is the first time I have walked away from a gig thinking what a complete waste of money that was.

Always chuckle thinking about the question some Journo posed to Lennon asking, "is Ringo the best drummer in the World"......"he's not even the best in the Beatles!"

Always like that!

Having seen Clapton play a dozen or so times since Feb 1990, I couldn’t agree more.
His 2009 "My wife wants a new Kitchen" tour, being a distinct low point, with me and dozens of others saying the same thing as you, whilst stuck in a traffic jam trying to leave Liverpool’s Echo arena . . . . . this was in stark contrast to last month’s Roger Waters show, which was fantastic.

There’s part of me that can’t help but chuckle at the thought of a Beatles reunion taking place in London and not in Liverpool . . . . .

Aah yes. I see people from Pistonheads' "Paradiddles-R-Us" forum have popped over to offer their considered opinion of one of the most influential drummers in rock.

By the way - that Lennon comment? He was being ironic. Mr Lennon was not known to suffer fools or sub-standard players gladly

Indeedydeedy

The essence of good drumming is to provide what the song requires, no more and no less. That's what Ringo did in the Beatles.

I remember reading (I can't remember where) a quote about Ringo by Jim Keltner. It was very complimentary.

Ahmet Ertegün Tribute Concert

"The headline act was the English rock band, Led Zeppelin, who performed their first full-length concert since the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, in a one-off reunion. Bonham's son Jason Bonham played drums during the band's set, and also provided backing vocals on two songs."

I know, and he went on to say that whilst maybe not the best technically, he had "something" that you couldn't quite put your finger on. Which was praise indeed from John!!
But it is a bloody great line!!

And maybe had some background to it, also, as it is interesting that McCartney played drums on (at least) two tracks recorded....anyone know which they are..?

Ballad of John & Yoko, Dear Prudence, Why Don't We Do It In The Road? and Wild Honey Pie. He also did the foot tapping on Blackbird and Paul came up with the drum part on Ticket To Ride.

Totally agree about the Clapton thing, he is dull dull dull, Gilmour is far more deserving of the title Slowhand.

Never understand why a guitarist wants to be called "slowhand" anyway. Surely this is like calling a racing driver "slow steer"?

A tribute act would do a better job plus we wouldn't get to see that doing his crappy 'thumbs up'.
