I heard the guy being interviewed and his answer was that insurance always takes ages to pay out so the money raised will help get things started sooner. I doubt enough would be raised to pay for the entire building but the idea was to help start things.
And then what? Insurance will have people on site now clearing it and making it safe.

The answer is not to send money to such causes, send messages of support, yes, and make pledges to go and buy stuff off them when they get back up and running rather than go and buy crap on interest free from DFS. Let insurance pay out, but let them know it is worthwhile them rebuilding and reopening.

I'd love to see it reopen, but there is a high chance it wont, tbh. I suspect it will be redeveloped into something else.

Stick your hand in your wallet and lets make ourselves feel better. Typical British stiff upper lip, sorry I just think its a pretty stupid reaction myself.
Hang on aren't you our resident socialist?
Despite his protests, I think he's just a Labour mouthpiece. My money's on Tessa Jowell.

I've got the money. I listened to the owner on news 24 and he impressed me. Given the amount I've paid funding rioters over the last year I'm happy to help. Nice to know we inhabit the same space.
Don't you two usually see eye to eye? Personally I can't see what's wrong with this? Leaving politics out Cranckedup, why is it stupid? confused

Community spirit manifests itself in all sorts of ways. My mum (68) was caught in Lewisham during some disturbance was walked to safety by a few locals who I will never meet. I thank them for this as she is practically crippled and hardly able to walk herself.

Well since the thread has been resurrected, do we know what's happened with the store? Reopened or not?
