Bring Back Winkie?
Discussion
Exactly. Cameron is getting no kicking. He's telling her there is no chance of a Tobin tax and his leading for ECB intervention is for the good of the eurozone including Germany.
You will not find another G7 or G20 leader from the time who will agree that Brown pulled off any kind of coup. They all thought he was a loon and they were right.

I know it's popular on these pages to dislike Cameron, but seriously, how exactly has Merkel "swatted him away"? It's bonkers.
What Merkel wants- needs, really- is a huge tranche of British cash, raised by imposing an EU only Tobin tax. A tax that would have been inflicted mainly on us.
What she got is "no".
Brown (if we were not already knocking on the IMF's door, which seems unlikely), would simply have said "How much would you like?" And then would have spent the next 4 years lying about it.
I agree regarding the Tax, he's a pawn in Merkel's game and played his role of saying no. However he's hardly looking like he's doing well on his stated aim to "retake powers from Brussels" though, is he?What Merkel wants- needs, really- is a huge tranche of British cash, raised by imposing an EU only Tobin tax. The only person I've heard mention how great Winkie's economic strategies are since he left has been Balls.Says it all.

Casting Frau Merkel as some sort of Fat Controller who's moving the rest of the EU leaders around like pawns is a bit wide of the mark. What the Germans have got is financial muscle, and that's it. And they haven't even got enough of that to save the Euro (or Italy, or Spain, or in all probability France).
Your point about repatriating powers is a good one, thus far. Mind you, no one seriously believed that this was going to happen at this juncture. What we have got is deadlock; the Germans are a million miles away from getting what they want.
There is, in any case, a high probability that the powers will repatriate themselves in due course. And not a hope in hell that Frau M will get her Tobin tax.

You are quite correct, I didn't mean for my comment to imply that Mrs M has the power to make Cameron bend to her will, merely that she’s playing a game for her own electorate – she cannot expect Cameron to agree to a financial transaction tax to fund the bailout fund, hence raising the issue is done for other purposes. What the Germans have got is financial muscle, and that's it. And they haven't even got enough of that to save the Euro (or Italy, or Spain, or in all probability France).

Remember the newly anointed Messiah, Barry O'Bama refusing to see Mc Ruin, and the latter desperately button-holing him in the kitchens at the UN.Oh the shame.

I we still had winky we wouldn't be looking at 2 terms of Millibrain and co after the next election
CMD is going to get a huge kicking at the polls
Honestly, I'm not certain he will. Milliband has managed this week to adopt the Coalition policy on Europe, CMD is going to get a huge kicking at the polls
To win the next general election you need the following things
1) Not be from the nasty party
2) Not be Gordon Brown

Winky was happy enough at the summit though - cheerfully chuntering away to himself at the back of the room, twiddling the knobs on an Etch-a-Sketch that Ben Bernanke had told him were "the controls of the world banking system".
Back then he was tipped as a shoo-in for the top job at the IMF too. Blocked by the much-reviled Dave.Puggit said:

Balls is the Labour chancellor now.
What a party

But, referring to my OP, would Winkie have done any better? Personally, I think he would.
...and what, precisely, do you think he would have done?Obviously, he would inadvertantly leave his microphone on, and referred to Merkel as 'A Bigoted Cabbage-Guzzling Witch of a Hausfrau' when he thought he was in private...
He said Merkel is an unfkable lard-arse...
Which is more or less spot on, I'd say...

Gordon Brown was an ignorant and gullible fool. I'm sure my 7 year old knows more about economics than he does, she has to work to earn pocket money and knows that it doesn't grow on trees. I know he doesn't bother to work for his salary, but if GB's still on the loose in Kircaldy (and not in the nut house where he belongs after his nervous breakdown) I'm sure he'll pop up soon and save us like he did before... but I won't be holding my breath.

If only Nigel Farage was PM, he might not be any better than the current prats at the head of major political parties but he'd be entertaining in conversation with Merkel and the 4th Reich EU
He'd be funny that's for sure, i can't imagine we'd be popular with other European countries!0a said:

Why do the germans think we should destroy our financial services sector to support the euro? I read in the paper that CMD was heckled by the german press in this regard...
Why do they think we should suck it up to let them off?
So that they can continue to sell BMWs to highly indebted EU client markets? Why do they think we should suck it up to let them off?
So. Tell me. Why do they call you BMWBen?
