This is one of those incidents where I'm grateful he got sacked for stupidity that had no real consequences before a lapse of common sense that damaged his constituents or country.

So would you prefer candidate A or B

candidate A is a virgin and has never had sex with anyone ever, has never got drunk , has never been to a party, has never offended anyone has never broken any laws and has never even mildly annoyed anyone

Candidate B has shagged around, puked in the street, been to nightclubs, has offended at least 5 people, has 6points on his license for speeding and has been to a fancy dress party.

Your call mr media friendly or mr normal
Why are there only 2 candidates to choose from? I'd prefer someone with a bit of common sense, who I could rely upon to be discrete and reliable and who wouldn't give the other side easy headlines in a media obsessed world.
Because in a media obsessed world mr normal is too much of a danger

I could easily see the same media storm if he had been pictured wearing a nazi uniform while at college which could be 20 years ago

Hence we are getting more and more people who have never seen the real world in politics

If he didn't realise that this was a huge error of judgement then he shouldn't be part of Government, he's a liability that Cameron doesn't need.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

I agree with your general point on career politicians but in this case he committed the 'offence' while serving in public office. And really it's more punishment for his stupidity then anything.

Rather stupid really, its hardly like he's a secret member of Combat 18.
And we wonder why MP's don't risk their jobs speaking up on issues like race, religion , immigration etc where the papaers are just waiting to build up some non story into something where stupid people will call for him to be sacked. Long term it does more harm than good.

No a huge error of judgement is invading a country and killing hundreds of thousands of people

A huge error of judgement os borrowing billions of pounds and destroying the jobs of thousands of folk

A huge error of judgement is announcing you are selling all the countries gold at a market low

This is a case of someone stood next to a bloke in a silly costume

Totally true. But he's only sacked for now to tame the braying masses, in six months he'll be back.

How about a Klansman outfit then, would that be OK?

I do take the point that he didn't mean anything by it so I don't want to come across as particularly bothered by it, but at what point does it go from being a bit of fun to something that should be considered bad taste or offensive?

Anyone who fought in the War is now over eighty.

Can't we all move on? Can't we just get over it? As "freedom" was supposedly one of the many things that we fought for (I'm not convinced, but that's what we are frequently told) can't a bloke wear WW2 fancy dress nearly seventy years later?

I suspect the real reason is that someone wanted an excuse to stir up trouble to further their own little cause by stiffling someone elses freedom just a little bit.

I think they were fired for a mountain of issues that will play out for many years to come. It took about 15 years to get over the last Labour government.

This is unprecedented is it? First ever instance of public outcry because a public figure was involved in some Nazi fancy dress? No. Anyone who still gets caught out by the 'dressed up like Hitler' bit is such a fking idiot they deserve everything they get.

Sadly yes

Otherwise Cameron wouldn't be firing folk who go to fancy dress parties
