Similar issue almost killed off Croft Circuit.

The solution isn't noise supression or stopping developments, the solution is a cull of mongs.
All of that applies to Castle Combe also.
Croft was a bit more of a pisser because the issue was blown up due to a marital dispute.

When I moved out of Hounslow ( right under the flight paths) to Sandhurst in Berkshire, I really struggled for the first couple of months to get to sleep at nights... it was just TOO quiet!
I live in Sandhurst (Owlsmoor) I guess it is quiet compared to Hounslow but there is still the overflow from Heathrow some nights. It's annoying that as we are near Heathrow, we don't get any interesting aeroplanes flying over.
I used to live about 6 miles from the Shuttleworth collection, so lots of intersting stuff. It was also an area that was used as the circuit for the Clophill fete so back in the 80's we had Vulcan's, BBMF, B-1b's and alls sorts flying low and fast over our house. Summers were great.

The only interest in Sandhurst is once every 2 years when Farnborough is running, our area is the escape route for the Red Arrows......and they were very low and fast. It was awesome.

The Nimbys were at it when the mothballed Stirling to Kincardine rail line was reopened a few years ago. "Noisy trains - it's not fair". Didn't the rusty railway tracks at the bottom of your garden give you a fking clue that some day trains might run on them? rolleyes

Now they have to put up with 4,500,000 tonnes of coal trunding past each year biggrin

Yeah it's the same at Goodwood too. There are people who complain about the noise who have bought as of yet UNBUILT houses. I would understand if the Airfield and Motor Circuit had just sprung up overnight, but they have been there far longer than any of the houses within earshot. All of the residents in these houses also get free tickets to all the events but still whinge and whinge leading to often crippling noise restrictions.
What a load of thrunge!

I used to live near the beach at Birkdale, Southport. In the 90's, before all the whingers got going, there used to be motorbikes thrashing round the sands.

I'm not a biker, but it was lovely. Hour after hour, people enjoying themselves. Good on them.

Also, we stayed in a hotel in Peurto Rico once. Had a lovely afternoon in our room after a nice lunch listening to the jet skiers whoowhoowhooing in the surf whilst watching Indycar on the telly.

Just what is it with people.

M ind you, I might have been peeed off if it was a load of chavs kicking a football around and swearing, jeering and shouting. Now they ARE twaats!

Planning departments are the problem in my opinion. Why allow homes to be built where they know there will be issues? case in point is Pontins in Blackpool, now demolished the landowners have been given permission to build something like 100 (or possibly 300) houses on the land. A huge portion of this land is directly at the end of Blackpool Airports runway. You can imagine how that's going to go when the Red Arrows or Typhoons are flying out of Blackpool (or any other plane for that matter)

I grew up in Rowley at good 4 miles away as the crow flies from Dunsfold, it was a regular sound hearing the engines being run up, I loved the sound of them.

The NIMBY's should have their houses confiscated if they complain imho

If you think that's bad then check this story out:
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/9428744.Yorkshire_...

What kind of person buys a house near to an airfield and then starts complaining about the air ambulance? I'm sure the feeling would be different if they, or their family, ever had to make use of the service.
I hope that land now gets sold as Landfill! A little Helicopter will be the least of worries the miserable s.
