His defence is that he was saying "I didn't call you a f***ing black c***".
Looking at the footage I find that hard to believe.

Still, he's always been a wonderful role model.
is that all he says? the op describes him as black yet thats not thought racist?!?
Using the traditional prefixes "fat" "daft", "stupid", "lazy" and "dozy" is OK. Using an adjective that is factually correct is a serious hate crime.

Obviously if the prefix is "white" and you happen to be beating someone senseless at the time, this doesn't apply.

The person in question knows he's a black man. What do you think is the point of inserting the word "black" between two swear words?
and the fa should deal with it - a police matter though?!

I'm struggling a bit here pete.
Black is a factual description, why would that be racist?
Screaming "You black !" in someone's face however is surely offensive?

Is it not?

I'm white, and happy, indeed proud to be called it.
Call me a fking white though and I might take a different view.

I can't help thinking that Ferdinand is a big girls blouse. In the early '80s he would have had the whole stadium making monkey noises and throwing bananas at him. Now some one may or may not have called him a fking black and he plays the race card. Rooney must have been called far worse, what with being a bald (but not any more), fat, thick scouser that shags old prossers.
And you think that's right?

There is a saying i dont know if anyone has ever heard it....

sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

Regardless of what Terry said it should not have had police time wasted on it or taxpayers money.

Life goes on. Someone calls me a white or fat or anything else actually i really could care less.

When four black women attack a white girl and say "kill the white slag" as they kick her on the ground, that`s not a crime, and they are let off.

Do you think there would be this circus if Anton had called Terry a white ?

There's another saying, I don't know if you've heard of it...."You're a fecking idiot".
Which you won't mind of course, sticks and stones and all that.

In front of 5 million people one of our most influential sportsman abuses someone on the basis of their colour alone.
What could possibly go wrong?

ahole.
Sticks and stones...

Maybe not, but there certainly should be.
Category mistake Andy.

Perceived offence doesn't alter offence.

I realize that, but you stated that you would essentially take offence if someone said that to you. But do you think the police would take it seriously? Do you think the CPS would be involved? I think not.

TBB. I'm retracting this. My apologies.
I was trying to make a point on the basis of your post but it was a crass analogy.

I will delete if you wish.

So what?
Come on dude, how do societal mores alter morality?
Just because the police don't take it seriously why should that influence the offence?
I'm not arguing a legal point, I'm arguing a human one.
And you know that.

No biggie " Life goes on"

biggrin

I simply cannot see the point of wasting time worrying about what some idiot has said whether a footballer or a chav.

The only opinion or comment that you should give a crap about is from people who both know you and more importantly that you care about. Everything else is just fluff.

ETA:

Racism has become an issue BECAUSE people make such a fuss about words which are essentially meaningless.

You argued that the term black was offensive, as was white. I was merely pointing out that the offence you may feel is not treated at all equally to the offence that a black person would have by the authorities. I agree with your human point, but arguing that legally they are not treated equally.

Okay, fundamentally we agree. But I think the category mistake stands, we are are arguing two different issues. As you well know (and I have learned much from your posts here) whatever is current is not necessarily correct. I care not what we have, prejudice based on colour is the ultimate ignorance.

I never said it wasn't. I was arguing the legal point. Black chap feels offence, CPS, police, etc. white fellow, (yourself, for example), shrug of the shoulders, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
