Here's an idea - the Americans give them a pile of bibles to burn as compensation ?
Well I imagine...[mod edit, please dont try to bypass the swear filter unless you want a spell in the sin bin. its the for a reason]
It would explain the weird way it posted though
Just out of idle curiosity; considering that there must be hundreds of Korans being printed every day, how ARE you allowed to get rid of one that's, for instance, falling to pieces? These people aren't honestly saying that no copy has/should ever be destroyed surely? We'd be chest-deep in them by now.

Covered on Radio 4 this morning. They can be burned so long as the askes are disposed of in running water (river, sea etc), weighted down and dumped in running water or burying it.Starfighter said:

thankyou.
i didn't know writing in the Koran was forbidden but it makes sense that you shouldn't deface a holy text.
Makes no sense whatsoever, as it's just text at the end of the day. What is to be held in higher regard, the means of communicating the idea or the idea itself? The book (any book) is just the medium of communication. Burning Principia or Origin of the Species doesn't damage the ideas expressed within them. When you have real people dying as a result of offence taken over perceived insults against at best quasi-real people, the world has gone stark raving mad. I have a lovely book on the Egyptian bestiary at home and I'd be deeply upset if someone burnt it, but I wouldn't raise a mob and start killing people in the name of Osiris. Where do you stop? Is eating a Mars Bar offensive to Romans? It's bonkers.i didn't know writing in the Koran was forbidden but it makes sense that you shouldn't deface a holy text.
