Happily there's a small army of dilligent eastern Europeans who negate the need to hire one of our native apes.
Agreed.I have used many an Eastern European citizen for various jobs rather than a brain dead chav.
It's saying something when you would much rather leave your car/house keys with a 'foreigner' than a fellow countryman.

I'd never hire anyone to do anything unless they can actually use the English language.
Well, in "modern Britain" all that means is you'll be over-paying!I generally find that the Poles have a better grasp of our language than people who've had the misfortune ot be educated here.

Sentences served concurrently though. so just 3 and a half years each, less with good behaviour etc.5 years and four years, three months.

But,
"Beau Isagba, 17, of Icknield Drive, Ilford, who admitted stealing the bike from the student was convicted of the attack and jailed for seven years."
Much better.

As I see it, he put someone's life in danger, stole a respectable month's salary and someone's means of making a living and got 2 years 6 months. He also admitted to looting and violent disorder for which he got another 2 years. I make that 4.5 years, so I don't know where the extra 16 months come from, but it's all a bit abstract as short of murdering a prison warder he'll be out in 2 years anyway with time knocked off for remand and good behaviour.
Unless he is some kind of brilliant flawed genius with an otherwise unblemished record and a bright future, that seems a pretty lenient sentence to me, but it's the longest term yet given for riots that turned our capital city into a no-go zone for a week in the height of summer and left 5 people dead.

Whilst I agree with you wholeheartedly I can't help but think that if this was a random attack rather than being part of the riots I reackon he would have only got a few months if not community service. As I see it, he put someone's life in danger, stole a respectable month's salary and someone's means of making a living and got 2 years 6 months. There is simply no deterent to violent crimes and I bet he will appeal his sentence and probably get it reduced.

True, but that isn't a cause for celebration when the woolly morons get it slightly less wrong than normal.valiant said:

I'm very simplistic on this. For rational people there's an easy deterrent in the loss of liberty, the sense of shame and the sheer inconvenience of a lengthy jail term. Those whom this does not deter can not be considered rational and so can not function in a rational society. Conveniently the same solution applies and we lose nothing by putting these people away for a long time, removing from them the rights and responsibilities of life in a civilised society. If he'd got 20 years then I would think things were getting better, but seeing as both of them will be out and doing the same again by their mid 20s, it hardly seems like a cause for celebration to me.
