Is this going to be the most policed games ever? I don't envy anyone who has tickets.

I doubt any level of policing other than all out totalitarian style will be able to actually stop an attack.

'Sorry sir, you can't park your van there.'

'Okay'

I wonder if they'll take basic precautions as well as the multi-million £ options, such as demanding all face coverings be banned?

Nah.

Nah.
The fencing would be interesting.

The US still hasn't cottoned on to the fact that the baddies already that these massively overt, intrusive and overbearing security campaigns are largely pointless. If your intelligence hasn't already figured out who the threats are, a thousand men in suits and sunglasses aren't going to help.

As proven wonderfully here:

The Rapier deployments aren't really to deter terrorists, let alone stop them. They're for public consumption.

Sir Humphrey: Bernard, what is the purpose of our defence policy?
Bernard: To defend Britain.
Sir Humphrey: No, Bernard. It is to make people believe Britain is defended.
Bernard: The Russians?
Sir Humphrey: Not the Russians, the British! The Russians know it's not.

So if a hijacked plane turns up they can shoot it out of the sky. OK, so it'll land on a housing estate and kill a few local peasants but at least no atheletes will be harmed.

Since the biggest threat is likely from a triumvirate of bearded flea-ridden backpackers I hope they're not substituting military might for common sense.
Why would they be bearded and flea ridden?

If there's a dirty bomb scare you might be able to take your pick.
Sort of like the "Sum Of All Fears"

Been a while since I read it but wasnt that detonated in a van at a sports stadium ?

Excellent book... ste film getmecoat
Correct - Mile High stadium in Denver (Boston in the film for some reason). The nuke was made from parts / materials recovered from a lost weapon from the Arab / Israel war so it was a full fat thermo-nuclear device rather than dirty bomb.
