Welcome to what passes for justice in the UK.
I don't have a better solution, but it's always struck me as ridiculous that much of the law is a matter of opinion. Whether or not you get convicted or win your case hinges on the luck of the draw.

I see the CPS still reckons it was right to pursue this.
Oh they'll never back down.

Shirley McKie didn't get an apology for 14 years!

But there have been countless cases where the CPS have refused to take on cases when the evidence in strong.

I also have experience of working for a prosecuting authority where cases were not taken on for fear of looking bad in the press should we lose even though it was obvious a crime had been comitted and the evidence was good.

The notion that they will waste public funds prosecuting for the hell of it is not that accurate IMO. Conversley, in my experience, many cases were dropped because of cost (but my experience is not with CPS)

So it is an odd choice to prosecute on something like this. One wonders if it was more a policy issue (i.e sending a message).

Why was the case heard in the High Court?

It cost me well over £10k in legal fees for my case to be heard (and won) at the Court of Appeal and that was with my best friend doing most of the prep work (he's a solicitor and didn't charge me a penny).

Compared to being banged up 23 hours a day it was money well spent but it was a little galling that the application to get my costs back was refused.
Is there a thread about it? Care to share more info?

To answer your questions, no and not on here. However, if you see me/my car at a meet then please do come and say hello - I'd be more than happy to give anyone the lowdown.
