Boris Johnson always reminds me of the Agincourt speech by Shakespeare from Henry V which Boris could no doubt, quote from memory.

See: http://www.gonderzone.org/Library/Knights/crispen....

It reminds me of why I an proud to be an Englishman. As does Boris.
He would make a brilliant British Prime Minister. No PC no toadys just straight from the hip.

The most amazing thing about that video was the people chanting BORIS! BORIS!.

I dont recall a politician ever having their name chanted by thousands of people in a crowd.

I swear if there was an election tomorrow the man would probably win without trying.
You say that but it's not like he won the Mayoral election in a landslide is it? It was very tight, we're sat here as if he walked it.

I like Boris, he's brilliant at this sort of thing. He used his 'bail out Greece' joke the night before as well but good material doesn't die.

Boris was born in New York but his parents are British and returned to the UK shortly after.

He's a bumbling, style-shy, old fashioned, old Etonion, babbling thesaurus who went to Oxford and is a two time Mayor of Britains capital.

British enough for me.

Bit tongue in cheek. I dont think he would cakewalk it as the stupid northeners would all vote labour as usual.

Just to be clear, are all northerners stupid as a general rule or do you feel anybody who votes Labour must therefore be stupid? Clarification please smile

ETA: You may have a point in the case of Boris, I can't imagine many scouse votes going his way.

That is the problem. But I think Boris might give Labour a run whereas Cameron is a spent force. I do think Boris might head a Con/Lib coalitions. But we are some way off that yet.

Yes because Millipede is so dreadful and Cameron will nosedive. I think there could well be no overall majority at the next election. With a possible Lib/Lab pact firming a new government. I doubt an overall majority till the election after when I would expect a Labour rally.

Well Miliband is doing perfectly alright poll wise at the moment and the local elections were a boost for him. He's probably doing about as well as you could ask of him right now. I do think they'd be doing better with David Miliband instead, I do have time for David Miliband and he does talk some sense unlike his tumbleweed brother. Unfortunately Trade Union votes are like away goals in the Labour leadership contests.

The Conservative's are essentially banking on Miliband winning them the election but that's looking a very dangerous policy right now. Surely neither will want another Hung Parliament, it's been an interesting experiment (one we were expecting since the election run-up) but I don't think they like it.

I do not disagree but you do not always get what you like in life. I think another hung parliament is a real possibility. They will just have to get on with it. I prefer David Miliband too, interesting how the TU vote elected Foot, which produced 16 years of Tory rule and have selected an equally unelectable politician this time.

It also doesn't seem to occur to Labour's Union backers that their least favourite party leader (Blair) has been the only one to ever deliver consecutive Labour terms in Government. John Smith may have done so but we'll never know. Kinnock was also an unviable option and they stuck with him for a decade for reasons passing understanding.

I think the problem is the parties are all too similar, the Conservative's are not as far away from Labour (and vice versa) as they were 30 years ago. The Liberal Democrats never really gained traction until the Iraq invasion, their strong opposition bought it a lot of votes and could've cost Blair a third win. Students are also a big group for the Lib Dems but I doubt they'll vote for them again, they may flock back to Labour.

One of the parties has to do something to shake it up and give the voters a real choice.

It's interesting how those with different opinions to yourself are therefore deemed terminally stupid. What an accepting bunch here on PH smile

Anyone who votes labour is stupid. Hell I have a great friend who is from oop north and he and his family are idiots really as they staunchly vote labour and are incapable of seeing why not.

I remember watching the runup to the election and someone from tv was interviewing some northern bloke who was going on about all the stuff labour had fked up. The interviewer then asks if he will be voting for labour again and he immediately goes "Oh course mate I aint votin for them thatcher lovin tory scum"

Said it all to me. I have never come across a more ignorant viewpoint politically than northerners. hey will always vote Labour "Cos o wot that Thatcher woman done".

Idiots who live in the past with no grasp on why she did what she did.

My northern friend is 29 and was barely a twinkle in his folks eyes at the time of the troubles yet he will never vote for anyone but Labour this from a guy I consider pretty damn smart with a good uni degree.

Maybe 'what that Thatcher woman done' didn't affect you or anybody you know, being from the magnificent South and all rolleyes It might interest you to know there's ignorant, idiotic scum who always vote Tory as well and it really does show arrogance to suggest anybody who doesn't bow before a picture of Thatcher every morning is a moron. Does it not occur to you different people will have different opinions and vote accordingly? The 'if you don't agree with me then you're wrong' attitude never wins anybody any friends, just a tip smile

Really the only ironic bit of what 'some northern bloke' said was the 'Thatcher lovin' bit. The Tory party fell out of love with Thatcher 20 years ago.

Labour had 52% of the MPs for London in the 2010 general election, and by the time of the Mayoral election, the coalition had dropped substantially in popularity.

Put Boris in a national constituency and I tend to think he would walk it.
