The fact there are empty seats yet there are people quite willing to pay and fill those seats but can't isn't really on though.
Maybe they should just say 30mins after the event starts we'll fill the seats for free?
So you are going to ignore basic property rights?

Someone buys a ticket then they should be free to do what they like with it, including not turn up or arrive as late as they want.
I doubt that many or any of the empty seats have been purchased, more like they are corporate freebies.

I'm sure the venue retains final say on who gains final admittance, a bit like if you turn up late at the theatre and can't be seated until a break in the proceedings.
An easy clause to add into ticket holding is loss of right of admission after a certain elapsed time from start of proceedings.
The airlines won't let you board after a certain time before the flight (even though it is still technically possible)

I'd guess at 20% empty at Greenwich Park yesterday and the food was a complete fiasco.

That said however, it was an epic epic day and the actual logistics of getting in, even with the security was brilliant, the armed forces who were managing the security side couldn't have been more polite and expedited the process very well and on the whole it was a truly wonderful day extremely efficiently managed.
A lot of people skipping sessions though waiting for their countrymen etc

Food was shocking though. That big screen area at the bottom of the temp stairs looked like a better bet for food. As did walking through Greenwich.

You are free to not turn up, but you don't own the seat. If you don't use it then it should be offered free to people in the olympic park.

It wouldnt be so bad if it were 1or 2, but it looks like large blocks of good seats just being left empty.

Pizza place ran out of meat, no fish at the fish and chips due to technical issues (though there was a suspicion that this may have been intentional, as the fish and chip places aren't allowed contractually to sell just chips due to the Macdonalds contract) and the paella stand ran out of paella.

This was all before midday.

Surely the empty seats are only accurately reflecting part of British culture - our class system?

Whilst the hoi-poloi have to jump through hoops to get tickets our betters get given them for free even though they are too important to attend themselves.

Any corporate tickets sold will always mean empty seats. This has been the case for at least 2 decades.

Are you really surprised?

Fair comment, does sound like a shambles... I bet McDonalds was doing roaring trade though, quelle surprise.

Of course they're free to do what they like, you a$$hole, But if they dont turn up, give the ticket to someone who does want to watch the event.

Corporations have paid for tickets via sponsorship of the games.

If the tickets weren't sold with any clauses, then tough luck. Changing the terms and conditions that the tickets were sold with so Lord Coe doesn't look at twit is wrong.

Watching it on TV at the moment I'd say It's about 20% full although we have had some serious rain, hail and thunder but equestrian types aren't normally lightweights so I wonder how many are corporate seats not being used.

We are talking about Greenwich park, all temp structures. I imagine in the more perm venues these issues dont exist.

It's understandable that sponsors or corporate tickets would go unused but they should only have been given out on the condition that if the people didn't turn up then they'd get resold at the door.

I find it amusing that they declared "one of the lessons learned was that full stadiums create the best atmosphere" then totally didn't implement that lesson! There should have been a system in place from the start.

Serves them right really. With their bonkers ticketing procedure they were asking for this.

What happened to the simple days of paying money for a ticket to go and see something and receiving that ticket? We don't do it this way in the football, the Premier League doesn't put a hold on your entire bank account and make you wait a month to find out which game you've been lucky enough to get tickets for.

It's a shame they didn't allocate a percentage of tickets to clubs involved in the actual sports.
That way you'd have people in the stands who know the athletes or who know how the rules.

It's annoying watching the basketball that the crowd are so quiet, they should be shouting defence when there team are on the ropes, stamping on the floor and making noise when the other team takes a free throw but because the majority have never watched basketball they don't know.

On top of that space for any team mates to come along for support and international press. Then it soon adds up to a few hundred for the less popular events.

For corporate tickets;
- tickets are conditional on you showing up 45mins before the event starts
- if you are not there / tickets are resold.

Oh, and Coe is a massive delusional coont.

Great idea, except when the transport system implodes smile
Definitely needs a cut off but no doubt hard to implement..."I got stuck in a traffic jam coz of the zil lanes and you have given my ticket away! I demand a refund!"
