No thanks anyone who has taken class A drugs, especially not those who have no shame in openly talking about it.
Politicians are only human and like us they make mistakes. If you expect people to live to a higher moral standard before they're anywhere near politics you're just going to encourage deceit.

Although I have a funny image of you heckling her to hide her 'shame' hehe

Don't understand this. I have no problem with her.

People criticise our politicians for being out of touch, then we also criticise them if they have some of the vices or have made the same mistakes "normal" people have. Damned either way it seems to me.

There are reports that Bliar doesn't want or won't get a backbench role, and has accepted something else instead.

http://labourlist.org/2012/07/blairs-back-tb-to-ad...

Given all that, he may well be after a backbench role. If and when Bliar says he 'cannot foresee any circumstances' he will be an MP, then it's definite.

Unforeseen circumstances occur all the time in contexts like this.

"Doesn't want a backbench role" means Ed Miliband packing up his office.

Not enough time for her kids, but plenty of time to develop and launch ill-thought-out social media sites? OK then.

New York. America. She has profile thanks to Murdoch / News International Media Select Committee. The right contacts. It's a career move.
Indeed the woman who is married to Iron Maiden's manager and has worked in and knows everyone in the music industry needed to become an MP to get contacts...

She could have easily raised her profile without being an MP. This time last year she was discussing her ambitions to go into cabinet. I would say the abuse and travelling backward and forward to New York has taken its toll.

Iron Maiden have been managed by Rod Smallwood for as long as I can remember. Louise Mensch is married to Peter Mensch, Metallica's manager.

All that is true. But beside the point. Point being the exposure / notoriety in America because of her role as a legislator. Face on tv.
That is above and beyond numbers in her smart phone from the music business.
I wasn't saying it was a planned on the back of fag packet when she was a teenager, and I'm sure the abuse et al was a push factor.
But sometimes opportunity knocks, the pull factor, and a career move is obvious.

Good God, pints of bitter all round on here.

She was a very sucessful novelist in her own right before becoming a politician.

Never needed politics, and was actually a decent Constituency MP, always spoke her mind and not afriad to say what she thought even if it damaged her "career" with the whips.

Could do with more like her.

Well I suppose she could take up the position she was offered before becoming an MP, or make a bigger move into US politics

Do you really think so? What has she actually done?

IMO it was something that seemed like a good Idea to her at the time, and now she's had enough, forget the cost and consequence.

I doubt very much she'll be missed.

Not directly but close enough to be aware of anything she might do.

Furthermore I have watched her parade herself on chat shows and 'Select' Committees over the last two years enough to get a good idea of what she values and what she is worth. A Chick Lit writer sums her up for me.

I don't buy the theory that MPs act for constituencies. Little that a solitary MP does carries much significance compared with what they do with and for their Parties.

I think the word is 'resignation' rather than 'rejection.'

A bit of a shame this one, I don't mind Mensch to be honest and she is one of very few Tory MP's with a small amount of popularity (and one of very many with a large hate mail fan group). She was one of them 'modern' Tory MP's brought in to help the party appeal to younger voters so this is slightly damaging to Cameron's plans.

Her seat is far from safe for the Conservatives so forget any big Tory name taking it on. Boris is Mayor until 2016 so thoughts of him standing are fantasy land. Labour will probably put a reasonably strong candidate up as they need to show people will actually vote for them at the ballot box rather than just at opinion polls.

Whilst she hasnt done herself any favours with some of her comments and opinions, I dont think she has been pushed out of this by a hate mob.

Mensch comes across as a very strong and independant woman and often cited Thatcher as a big influence on her life. In the face of such criticism, Thatcher relished the fight and it always apperared that Mensch would do likewise. She appereared to have strong political aspirations and was by all accounts well respected in the house.

I suspect there is more to this than a few nasty tweets from whiney Grauniad readers....
