Straight white guy festival

I don't think there is any such implication.
If not then I apologise.bga said:
The UK shipped over a load of people from lots of places. They want to celebrate some of that culture (among other things) so why would anyone stop them? (I'm not suggesting that this is your position on it). I suppose it's a bit like Paddys Day.
I don't think anyone has suggested they should be stopped. The suggestion (which I think was actually intended as a joke) was to set up an 'alternative' Notting Hill carnival........(presumably such a carnival would consist of a parade of middle aged white blokes in beige cardigans and plaid slippers) The poster pondered whether such a festival would get government funding.

I think moonhawk knows full well that it wasn't implying anything of the like and is merely trying to smear my post.
I was trying to do no such thing. To me the implication was there - but as I stated above, if that was not your intent then I apologise.Fotic said:
As a country, we're solely responsible for our diverse culture and to then try and suppress that culture by whining about festivals and the like is hypocritical and ignorant.
As also pointed out above - the poster who made the suggestion about an "alternative" festival wasn't whining about anything.......they made a facetious suggestion which was clearly intended to be in the same vein as the story in the original post (i.e. a joke). I don't think Nottingh Hill carnival is this any more. Unless the culture brought over was stty chart R'n'B with the bass pumped up to ground-shaking levels; Red Stripe at £5 a can and carbonised "chicken" sold from oil drums; gangs of teenagers angrily storming through the crowds; and an overall sense of menace near any sound sytem (except the one playing "white music")The UK shipped over a load of people from lots of places. R'n'B is so far removed from the great rythm and blues music of the past that they should take out an injuction against its use!
There are British people who are white/yellow/brown/black/ with Asian/African/Chinese/European fathers who are Ll just as British as you and me, and I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of us feel the same way. However if any of us voice concerns about groups of people who do not adopt our culture, will not speak our language, and refuse to integrate into our British society, then we are vehemently condemned as racist bigots. So yeah, let's have a march containing British people who are proud to be British and enjoy our culture and our way of life. Let's have someone like Ian Wright as head of the organising committee. Or am I being racist in suggesting him because he's black? Which reminds me, I've never ever thought of him as 'black'. He's British.

My only concern would be that I'm not convinced he could organise a piss up in a brewery.Oh that and he played for Arsenal.

What government funding? Notting Hill carnival is funded entirely by donations. If you/he is saying "government funding" from police presence/road closures/etc. then the Lord Mayor's Show gets significantly more "funding".
I know which one I'd rather go to.

Someone should organise an alterative to the Nottingham Carnival.
Do you think the government would pay.
Simple criteria
Massive inconvenience for locals.
Using all police, and local authority resources
Loads of crime illegal drugs etc

Quite right. When will there be someone who stands up for the heterosexual adult white middle class male living in a prosperous and safe country? We demand equality!
I hope I haven't misunderstood your reply. I take it as sarcasm, if I am wrong I apologise. I am one of the people you accurately describe, well, almost accurately. I am not demanding anything but certainly fit the rest of your criteria. I'm not seeking redress for anything, nor trying to foment angst, not complaining about my lot, not boasting that I am comfortable in my skin. I am not trying for action on so-called equality, what an impostor that stupid term is. Again if I have misunderstood your reply I apologise, but you seem to have deliberately missed the point as most do when these issues are raised. Is that meant to be diversionary?
