Roger Moore - RIP
Discussion
Saw him on tour a couple of years back. Very self effacing and funny fella, although clearly not quite as sharp as in his younger days. But the amount of work he still put in for UNICEF unpaid was quite astonishing. Reading his books prompted me to set up a subscription to them each month. Don't normally get bothered by celebs dying but he has been around (and famous) all my 50-odd years on the planet. Such a shame.
RIP
One of my and many others best cinema Bond moments back in 1977 when patriotism still meant something...
The silence and then the whole bloody cinema erupted into a combined cheer when the parachute opened.

Great man and actor, so many parts. I can still remember Ivanhoe!

What a sad day.
Roger Moore was the Bond I knew growing up. Live & Let Die was the first film we had on VHS video (with a cord on the "remote"). But the one part which I always remember him for was playing Seymour Goldfarb, Jr in Cannonball Run - "running around like some gooy movie star named Roger Moore".
RIP Sir Roger.

God, it just keeps getting worse, doesn't it...
Two of my biggest, lifelong loves since childhood have been motorcycle racing and the Bond movies, so to have two of my personal heroes go in the space of a few days - coupled with the utterly horrific events in Manchester last night - is pretty damn crap. I feel properly upset now.
But anyway...89 isn't a bad innings at all is it? I grabbed the chance to see his live tour in 2015 - he came to Liverpool on the same night that Spectre was released. He was just as charming and funny as you imagined he would be. He had no qualms whatsoever about making fun of himself, either. He had lived a fantastic life - and he knew how much of a lucky sod he had been, too.
RIP Sir Roger.

I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years ago after his one-man show.
He was effortlessly amusing.
On being asked what his favorite car was, he replied that it was his Smart car; perfect for Monaco.
He then explained that he loved the opportunity to talk about himself in the one-man show format, chuckling away that a chap in Leeds had asked him "how many girls have you shagged?"
A charming, self effacing gentleman whose tireless ambassadorial work for unicef will be long remembered.
