It's been known as SA 80 by people like yourself who are un-educated.. Do not try to tell me I am pedantic when it is you who are wrong.
Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.
Now tell me that 5.56 x 45mm NATO should not be used on the streets.
Bore off you fking Throbber!!!!Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.

The only time we've never refered to it as the sa80 at work is when we had the weapons handling lecturers in training. It's just playing at soldiering anyway compared to carrying a GPMG and 1200 rounds a day sack.

She is throwing about insults and swear words for absolutely no reason, very crass.
I know a couple of people that served right at the thick end of things and are extremely humble and don't big up their skills and knowledge, a quality that could be learned from I think.
Come on then, please explain to me where in this thread exactly ' I Threw insults and swear words for absolutely no reason'?I know a couple of people that served right at the thick end of things and are extremely humble and don't big up their skills and knowledge, a quality that could be learned from I think.
Oh that's right you can't.

Why change system that seems to be working? Operation Temperer has delivered nearly 5,000 extra armed personnel to stand guard at sensitive locations, leaving proper coppers free to go and Police. All at more or less no cost to the taxpayer.
Why would we want to pay for an additional 5,000 personnel all year round?

I regularly have to drive through armed police check points......today a soldier had joined them.....never had a problem....but the soldiet seemed somewhat edgy....and very focused :-/ makes me wonder if they have the right sort of training /experience.
Probably haven't. Hands on, working the streets amongst civilians and bad guys and girls ended with OP Banner. Edited by bananaman1 on Wednesday 24th May 22:50
I remember starting my army career as a sprog 18 yrs old being edgy and a bit uneasy patrolling hot spots in south Armagh. Soon became hardened to it.
So will they if this op becomes the norm.
PH at it's best. A crab girl correcting guys about guns and everything kicking off
And it's not solely SAS mooching about the capital at the moment. The lot that that were involved with Jean Charles De Menezes are also out and about, the ones who know how to 'neutralise' a live terror threat.

I don't know why everyone is getting pissy about what's suitable or not anyway. The 5.56 was used for years and years on the streets of NI. Christ I was on the outskirts of Newry town centre with a gpmg on a sling when the bad guys kicked off. We came in from the rural side of town ( towers) to give support.
That opened a few eyes I can tell you.

dai1983 are you a SAAI?
No. Those in the PW branch are usually pendantic miserable s who's method of teaching is to embarrass and call people "st s" when they can't do something first time. The new blood mostly has a 180 degree different outlook.
How many of the cadets you've taught stuck around and went on to join the real armed forcesl?

There are no 'extra' Officers and it's costing a great deal. The 'extra' has magically appeared by cancelling every Officers days off and extending shifts to 12-15 hours. It's completely unsustainable. Night shifts on Tuesday were extended to 10am and Officers had to be back at 5pm. 7hrs to travel both ways, eat and sleep.
Do you think the IPCC will consider fatigue following a shooting. Not a chance.
The troops have been deployed because the Police no longer have the capacity or reserve. . When May cut 20000 Officers she said "it's not about numbers". Odd how after every incident the solution is extra Officers on the street.

What do you mean by "an SA 80"?
SA 80 is a family of weapons.
Hint: It stands for SMALL ARMS 1980.
Given that there are images of people carrying the L119A1 (basically a Canadian cut down version of the AR-15) which uses the same 5.56 x 45 mm NATO round, your point is what exactly?

A round from an sa80 could do a lot of unintentional damage after passing through or just missing a target.
