First retail ‘name’ to pop off 2018
Discussion
The UK high street is seeing a slight revival at the moment. It is not all doom and gloom.

WH Smith can't have much more time, but I've said that since Woolworths went
Don't know how they keep going, always seem emptyish and I don't think I've ever bought anything in one.NerveAgent said:
Maybe Debenhams, though I think we may see a few just scale back to a couple of key stores, rather than pop off.
That's their issue, they can't....they're committed to a number of very long-term upward only leases without break clauses - heard the average lease length was approaching 20 years! That's hugely inflexible and short of subletting these stores (to whom?) the only way they get out of them is via a pre-pack or creditor arrangement. Couple this with the online threat - nowerdays why go specifically to a department store? - and I don't think they (or House of Frasier) are long for this world.

What is this House of Frasier? A spin off or a new series? I thought he lived in an apartment. And ‘nowerdays’? Really?

Hospital receptions seems to be the only time I see those being used and even then not much.limpsfield said:

Agree with that. There’s one near Peterborough - sells too varied a product line (doesn’t seem to know what it is) and the discount card is w very weird arrangement.
Go Outdoors became part of the JD Sports group earlier this year, joining Millets and Blacks. They've come a long way from the single store in the back streets of Sheffield (originally known as CCC)limpsfield said:
I don’t think WH Smiths are going bust any time soon - share price up around 50% in the last year alone.
Look, a bloke on PH said he never sees anyone in his local shop so please don't post factual evidence of actual share price growth.A random bloke no longer goes there for a ream of A4 once a year so it's closing OK.

B&Q. Based on a sample of 1 (me). My local one closed so now I use a small independent DIY shop.
Halfords. Based on another sample of 1 (me). I needed a new headlight bulb yesterday. £10 from Halfords, £2.88 delivered from Amazon.
Mind you, since my local McD shut, I do not go to them anymore. And I refuse to eat at KFC and Pizza Hut since their crap service pissed me off (I complained and they could not car less). But all 3 seems to be doing well, despite me withdrawing my custom from them !
Your local B&Q is now a B&M matey. It was too small to survive. Halfords. Based on another sample of 1 (me). I needed a new headlight bulb yesterday. £10 from Halfords, £2.88 delivered from Amazon.

Sorry to hear about McDs
Another vote for House of Fraser. They closed their Leicester store recently, and their Nottingham store now looks quite tatty, old fashioned and unloved. I think they are feeling the pinch.
I have my doubts about Poundland, too. They have ditched their 'everything's £1' policy, thereby trashing their Unique Selling Point.

Aren't little chef going to be gone soon? I'm sure I read somewhere that it's planned all their sites will be closed and replaced with something else
Yes, all remaining 60-70 Little Chef restaurants in the UK will be closed by 2018 and replaced with Greggs or Starbucks franchises.Travelers are still happy to eat junk food, but only if it is dirt-cheap, or sitting on squishy sofas that make them feel all posh and stuff.
