Yes, he Tweeted his congratulations to sidicks earlier on today on his return to the PH thread.

Did you miss it?

It appears that Remainers are getting disappointed that progress is being made, progress they say is not really Brexit - you would be forgiven in thinking that they should be happy at such a prospect!

The UK has effectively signed up to staying in the EU without political representation for 2 years after the leave date. Not only that, we won't be able to change our minds during those two years, meaning we're agreeing now to take whatever deal is agreed during transition for our end relationship. Or, no deal and bang, cliff edge. Vast majority of this agreement today is EU terms, as I always suspected it would be. It is essentially a disaster being dressed up as a victory.
No it isn't. We've given up two things - three months of transition (and since most people are either saying "No transition at all!" or "Two years is nowhere near enough!" it is neither here nor there) and 12 months' worth of fishing rights, which are very important to the fishermen but I'm sure they'll be reasonably happy with the massive bung that the government is no doubt about to slip them.

What we got in return was agreement from the EU that we are allowed to negotiate, sign, and ratify Free Trade Agreements while in the transition period. That's a massive, massive win. Citizen's rights has also been signed off, which is important.

In addition we've been able to kick the can down the road a bit further on Ireland. That's actually the aim here - the UK position has long been that you can't finalise the solution for the island of Ireland as part of the separation talks - it needs to be part of the future arrangement discussions.

Lo and behold, it's not been resolved in the "Phase 1" talks where a fudge was made, and it's been allowed to slide through the "Phase 2" transition talks with only a couple of words added. It now rolls over into the part of the discussions we wanted it to be in in the first place. If I was David Davis I'd be feeling pretty pleased with myself.

The sweepstake is in your own imagination, and you're attempts to wind him up sufficiently enough on other threads for that to succeed have failed to date.

As it appears to be your mission (to get him banned, by your goading), which you've readily admitted to on one of the threads mentioned, I'm sure you'll try again.

They have kindly allowed us to negotiate new trade deals but they can only come into force with the agreement of the rEU or when we leave. At least Mr Fox now has a job. Let’s see how good he is at it.
...
They were rather unkindly not allowing this before. So this, to me, is a big win.

Practically there is no way they could come into force ahead of the transition completing. As someone who perpetually notes that cake is not for eating, I'd have thought you'd be OK with that. So have a smile that we can now see how good or otherwise Mr Fox is. (If I were to bet, I'd bet on not very tbh. But we now have some time to find that out quickly and replace him if need be. He no longer has any excuses).

...The rEU have also been clear the TM cake, eat it and unicorns plan is dead. Its Canada or nothing...
Why "Canada"?

Why not "South Korea"?

Or a "Morocco"? Or a "Lebanon"?

Every agreement the EU has with another nation is different. Canada is merely the latest hashed up affair.

If by a "Canada" agreement we all mean that we will sit round the table and discuss what makes the most sense for both parties then happy days. I can't actually think that they mean anything else if we are talking about grown adults tbh. I can't imagine most/any of the other 27 member states would be at all happy trading with us on Canadian terms, in the same way I can't imagine us being. So let's see how it pans out.

...From a personal point of view I would be happy with just a one year’s extension....
You would like a year on top of the 20mths? In all seriousness, why are you allowing your personal life to be so hampered by politicians on both sides of this divide (UK/EU)?

Personally I couldn't care whether some wish to see this as UK capitulation to the EU. The arrangement seems to be sensible (with perhaps the one caveat being the date of rights to stay, but that's neither here nor there really). If it makes some happy to think we've caved, I won't be losing sleep over it (as a Leave voter).

Ireland will become a non-issue. Border traffic ditto. This place will be very quiet once more just as it has the last few days on these threads biggrin

We can then look at where our trade etc etc go over the next 5, 10, 15yrs etc.

That would be a bit naughty and if someone repeatedly tried that I would expect that person to have a spell on the naughty step.

Anyway welcome back Sidicks - even if I don’t like your discussion style I do occasionally appreciate the occasional point made.

Personally I think our government and their negotiators are playing a blinder, yes, I realise this is a not a popular view but look at what has happened. At every stage they have given just enough away to let the remaniacs call it "brexit lite" and not totally lose the plot over a possible "cliff edge". At the same time there is enough capitulation from the EU to stop the Brextremists from claiming victory or throwing their toys out of the pram. All the time the vast majority in the middle on both sides are almost completely happy with how it is going.
They are it seems achieving the impossible on many different levels....long may it continue...

Regrexiteers, have you changed your chosen group name, as well as your username(s)?
Not that I care, personally I think it has more of a ring to it than the previous Remaniacs

that sums it up for me. in public scottish fishermen are making out they are not happy, in private they have an inkling what is on the table for when we leave and are very happy. they will still moan even then though, that's what fishermen do best smile
