Doesn't affect anything else. Doesn't affect how it's going to go from here on in. If it was a simple scuffle that saw the screwdriver go the wrong way, then he'll more than likely be walking out today or tomorrow, and that'll be the end. "Reasonable force". If it was significantly more than that, then...
Remember Tony Martin? What people who hold him up as some kind of hero conveniently forget is that the scrote was shot in the back with an illegally-held gun, fired multiple times, while running away, by somebody who'd already had his licence taken away after shooting at somebody scrumping apples - not that a shotgun licence would have covered that pump-action shotgun anyway.

I don't care if he drove 20 miles and chased him across a field and shot him with an AK47, he rid the world of a scum bag.Fort Jefferson said:

Don't burgle, really simple advice to follow.
Two factors may have an influence: whose screwdriver was it, and was the dead man really a burglar. For all we know at the moment the 78 year old could be an old gangster and the dead man a rival's son from 'the old days'. Rarely are things as they seem at first glance. Breath bated in readiness...

Obviously feel for the gentlemen - it's not his fault somebody put themselves in harms way .... and paid with their life. Hopefully the correct outcome/counseling for him. If not - it's about time our courts/Lawmakers took a bloody good look at whom/what they are trying to protect and achieve.
I for one would chip in for the best defense barrister in the Land if this goes to court.
