Scotland bans travel to Manchester and Salford
Discussion
Maybe they should have some sort of "super spreader" badge. Having been to both Manchester and Surrey recently I might have a chance at getting one.
A bit like politics, this has now shifted into 2 distinct camps. People who aren't fussed and people who are paranoid/hysterical about all this stuff. Bizarrely the latter group still want to go out and do stuff, but try and impose nonsense measures on the former, even if in reality yet are not effective.

I know the drink driving one as made no difference just criminalized loads of people and inevitably destroyed people's lively hoods.
hell mend them. the drink drive laws are there to stop people drinking and driving. if you know the levels then why risk it ? why drink and drive ? its quite clear. I think the point is that lowering the limit is pointless.
No-one is complaining that you can't get absolutely munted and hop in a car. But what's the point in reducing the limit from the equivalent of a point of bitter to a half. It won't have any effect on the people who get pissed and drive anyway. They're going to do it regardless.

I live in Manchester, I’m going to Edinburgh for the weekend next month but this will be following a week in Northumberland, is this allowed as I am not coming direct from home? Will I get a fine if I’m stopped?
No idea and tbh wouldn't bother me in the slightest. We are having to travel up to Glasgow in August (not really a holiday as such) as we haven't seen the family in over 2 years and we need to help with a few admin bits.
Unless we have another massive lockdown we will be going no matter what.

"Conclusion: The change to drink-drive legislation in Scotland in December 2014 did not have the expected effect of reducing RTAs in the country, and nor did it change alcohol drinking levels in Scotland. This main finding for RTAs was unexpected and the research has shown that a lack of enforcement is the most likely reason for legislation failure. "
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31241879/
"Findings We assessed the weekly rate of RTAs and alcohol consumption between Jan 1, 2013, and Dec 31, 2016, before and after the BAC limit came into effect on Dec 5, 2014. After the reduction in BAC limits for drivers in Scotland, we found no significant change in weekly RTA rates after adjustment for seasonality and underlying temporal trend "

In other words it doesn't look like drivers with low rates of alcohol betwen the old and new levels have many accidents.

This was predicted, the lower level just penalises the moderate driver who's had a pint down the local, just over the limit, the crazy, uninsured, banned, unlicensed drivers who do cause all the mayhem are driving 4,5,6, times over the limit, always have been.

The sooner we English are allowed a vote in a referendum to cast Scotland adrift, the better.
Aye, but you English all detest each other as well*North v south, east vs. west, etc. How long before they start hiving bits off?
And it's even worse when you go outside London...
(* as do the Scots...)
