It's “reasonable” to call Iain Duncan Smith “Tory scum”

Open season for politicians to tell judicial scum what they should do then.
You realise that politicans already tell Judges what to do right? Politicians write laws. Judges apply those laws to cases.
If a politican doesn't like how a Judge has applied a law, they need to write a better law. If they can't because they don't have democratic power to do so, that's just tough titties, and it makes them look like a petulant little extremist when they rage against the independent judiciary.
People defintely have the right to be angry with Iain Duncan Smith, and the Tory party. They're absolutely entitled to express it.
10 years ago I'd have been fine with Politicians being called 'Tory Scum' on the street.
After the incidents with Jo Cox and David Amess, I'm inclined to consider the fear such comments might invoke in MPs in the moment. Ultimately, Politician's views should not be influenced by potential threats to their lives.
I suppose the details around how the entire incident occured are important in determining whether IDS would have felt fearful in the moment.

Would you be as understanding if someone followed you and was shouting those things?
Free speech includes things we dislike.Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.
Free speech means that I can say this to you or anyone else, regardless of your feelings on the subject.

Why what did IDS do to deserve it ??10 years ago I'd have been fine with Politicians being called 'Tory Scum' on the street.

It completely put me off buying a Morgan when I discovered that IDS owns one.
Assuming you're being serious I find this mentality very odd, this is the kind of thing you'd expect of teenagers and maybe uni students, not grown men! Edited by Ivan stewart on Wednesday 22 November 06:45

Is it just Tory MPs we're allowed to call scum or can we address any MP in such a fashion?
As has been pointed out, it depends on the circumstances. In the circumstances in question it was reasonable. But waiting outside an MP's house in the night and then following them and saying that while they walk alone down a street in the dark might not be, Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
