Police on tv right now have said they now who the stabbed is, and that whilst he is known to police this is not considered a terrorist incident.

Federal police: 'Too early to make assessment' on motivation
We're expecting to hear the latest details from a state police agency press conference shortly, but before that, here are the latest lines from the Australian federal police.
Federal officers confirmed just recently during the prime minister's press conference that New South Wales police are the lead investigators in this incident, but they are receiving support from federal authorities too.
Australian Federal Police Commissioner Cr Reece Kershaw stressed during that press briefing that federal police were assisting state police in New South Wales with the investigation and had deployed specialists.
When asked by reporters if there could be "any terrorist motivation" in the attack, the commissioner has said that his agency and other law agencies had determined "it's too early to give that assessment".
6 dead now. 9 month old in surgery. Federal police: 'Too early to make assessment' on motivation

Does not include the murderer.

This is the FBI definition
I get that they may need to reassure the public but they're just making it up now and it's not helpful.
FBI said:
Domestic terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.
I find it strange that despite shooting the suspect dead and not having chance to ask him or investigate anything in the space of a few hours they've had, the local Police says it's definitely not terrorism.I get that they may need to reassure the public but they're just making it up now and it's not helpful.

You're making stuff up. He was apparently known to police so they would be aware of his background to a certain extent and may have spoken to relatives/close contacts since.I get that they may need to reassure the public but they're just making it up now and it's not helpful.
Anyway, hopefully the police will soon be able to categorically state that it wasn't an Islamic terrorist incident so that PH can start having a go at the mentals instead.
You might well be right, but I would also be surprised if the police commissioner wasn’t sufficiently confident in the police force’s knowledge of the individual and their mindset to make such a statement.
Bondi is a hotbed of stupidity, that is for sure, and Westfield BJ would be an obvious target for some form of ideological attack against Australia, though that’s not the sort of stupidity for which Bondi Is renowned….
But if the man was known to police and police say it’s not a terrorist attack, and I’m assuming the colloquial use of the term to mean ideological, then a conclusion has already been reached based on knowledge not publicly known.

'Known to police' can mean anything. He may have assaulted his wife, a neighbour or a local official. He may have been detained under the equivalent of the Mental Health Act. He may be on bail for any offence. He may, of course, be known through their version of Special Branch, or MI6, but in that case, it would be a foolhardy police officer to suggest not terrorism related.
While KtP can mean anything, given that the police have said not terrorism related it is unlikely to be terrorism.

Bondi Junction has a lot of Jewish residents.
Whether it’s terrorism depends on your definition.
That way lies anarchy. Whether it’s terrorism depends on your definition.
We either abide by the accepted definition, perhaps via the OED: "The calculated use of violence or threat of violence to inculcate fear. Terrorism is intended to coerce or intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological," or we invent a new word for something that varies from the OED definition.
Anything else is through the looking glass.
