When GWB visited last year, Heathrow was disrupted for most of the day. So they decided to land Obama at Stansted instead.

What's wrong with RAF Northolt?

Funny enough, around the time of GWB's visit last year I saw a good 20-30 car convoy of police cars, Range Rovers and blacked out Yank SUV's (Ford Expeditions?) with flashy's, all surrounding the limo, all heading northbound on the M11 just past stansted on the 2 lane stretch

What's the bet Obama's landing at Heathrow in something more discreet?... either that or they were just taking the empty limo and entourage back to Mildenhall to stick in a Cargo plane

Having to disassemble Air Force One to get it out of Northolt might not look too good on camera.

Are you trying to say the runway isn't long enough? If so, just say it man!

It might just make it with minimum fuel but it would be marginal, the runway is half the size of those at Heathrow. Then it would have to land somewhere to refuel to make it back to the States.

That said, I'd like to see them try it biggrin

Obama is taking a helicopter from Stansted to Regents Park - but the rest are travelling in convoy.

Down the M11 - M25 - M1 i would think ?
or M11 - A13 - but would think that's a bit more open to problems

He will be on Marine one, which is also flown in, I believe in the back of a C5. (not Citreon)

One helicopter (Marine 1) with Obama in.
At Least 3 other Marine helicopters in formation/diversion/decoy.
These arrived Monday!

Years ago a Pan Am 747 mistook Northolt's main runway for the old runway 23 at Heathrow. It was in effect stuck at Northolt. They had to strip all the interior from the plane just to get it's take-off weight low enough to enable it to get out of Northolt.

After that the two gas towers had LH<---- and ---->NH painted on them as a helpful visual clue.

All this security is crazy, if someone really wanted to, they could just shoot him out of the sky using a decent home made SAM of some kind.

It'd probably crash over some densely populated area too no doubt.

(I REALLY hope this doesn't happen, I don't want frogmen in my U-bend)

That's not an ordinary 747 - it has military grade countermeasures on it. Although it's still a damn good target!
