Parky, you need to step up to a higher pedestal for speaking out against this hypocrisy which is infecting Britain in the same way that the cancer infected that poor girl!

I'm glad to see someone with a bit of sense has had the balls to stand up and say what we were all thinking.
PS. No doubt this thread will be moved to 'News & Current Affairs'![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)

Maybe a bit too soon for her grieving family but he is expressing the opinion of a silent majority.
I hate the cult of celebrity in all its forms, and would echo what Mr Parkinson has said in that they are often indicative of whats wrong with society. Those who are famous for doing something genuinely special, whether it be a movie, major sporting achievment etc... I don't mind.
But when people are famous for being famous and simply hog as much limelight as they can in order to massage their egos, this is something I cannot stand. Examples of these people include, Jade Goody, Victoria Beckham, Simon Cowell and just about every 'artist' he's ever created.
What has brought us to the point where these people are worshipped (see Goodys funeral service) but a policeman who risks, or even loses, his life to save someone is 3rd or 4th story on the news if it features at all. Theres something deeply wrong with a society that holds these values.
Exactly what I was thinking, only far more eloquently put. I don't disagree with you at all. However...patmahe said:

I wouldn't put either of those in the 'cult of celebrity' who are 'famous for being famous'. Like them or loathe them, the Spice Girls were very successful and she is in part famous for that and in part famous for being married to a successful footballer. Likewise Cowell isn't famous for being famous; he's been very successful in the music business. And, of course, held the top of the Top Gear leaderboard for 2 series.

But, poor examples aside, I agree that the 'cult of celebrity' is wrong and that Jade Goody epitomised it.
I was intrigued to see how the Sun would spin the comments and the reaction of it's readers ... quite amusing actually and not what I expected.

Most probably because for every Jade story The Sun have ran over the last couple of weeks they haven't allowed comments. Funny that isn't it? Maybe because they knew that people would actually say what they were thinking instead of pretending we all agreed with the way The Sun was portraying her up to her death??http://www.thesun.co.uk/mysun/comment/view.page?st...
Let's face it, it's thanks to the likes of The Sun that her illness and death became such a circus, had people been allowed to voice their real opinion at the time maybe things wouldn't have become so ridiculous.

Actually, reminds me of when Saint Diana of Our Hearts died. I remember thinking to myself that they wouldn't make this much fuss when a real saint like Mother Theresa died. And sadly I was proved right only a few months later.
And Jade Goody is as far removed from Princess Diana as Princess Diana is from Mother Theresa. Probably far more so in fact.
I remember when Diana died - first thing I remember doing is playing a song I thought appropriate - "Road To Hell" by Chris Rea.And Jade Goody is as far removed from Princess Diana as Princess Diana is from Mother Theresa. Probably far more so in fact.
