Dad said, "So, you like the idea of President Blair?"

How about we get rid of the Queen and have Tony back as President smile
So it would now be "President Is a Moron Broon"

Hey nonegreen,

You glad you started this thread?

You maybe should look into the Royals 'P&L'. I think they generate profit for the UK.

Also, IIRC, they receive their civil list payments as the royals gave up their crown estate revenues, no?

MPs claimed over £92m in expenses alone last year. Salaries on top. Makes the Royals look like good value IMO.

Just how much longer are the terminally dimwitted in the UK going to continue to keep these s?
Plainly you're an idiot.

However, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt as you clearly don't have the facts, read a little about the monarchy, and you understand how important they are.

The monarchy is part of our national identity, also in much the same way us Britons tear off to China to see a fking wall taking masses of our money away with us, the Chinese, Japanese, Americans etc all wander over here to see Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham etc etc.

Anyway, back to the financials.

The Crown is worth a considerable sum (billions), it's changed over the years in that they're unique in that the Royals are funded by the tax payer in exchange for all of the Crown's revenues.

In 2007/08 the Crown revenue from all sources amounting to £211m was transferred to the treasury.

So that was a waste wasn't it?

I expect an apology when I log on in the morning.

Not to me.

To HRH.

Oh dear a forlock touching tosser has emerged.

1. The royal estates would produce the revenues without all the parasites taking their bit.

2 The notion that the parasites contribute is total bks. If they were sent off to just one of the royal residences to stay there, the rest could beopened up as hotels and filled with American tourists. Now that would truly make a contribution

3. The upkeep of Royal estates is outrageously expensive, just clearing up after the last dead one cost a fortune.

4. The Royal expenses will sooner or later be fully exposed and it will be truly shocking/

As for an apology. Not a chance in hell. I am a republican and I reckon this coun try will be rid of the Royal Burden within my lifetime.

Why not move elsewhere if you feel so strongly about it?

Why the hell should I? PH is largely representative of the Torygraph and the daily mail. Just because I am in the minority here does not reflect my position in mainstream society. Very large number of people are republicans and we all will be soon if Brussels is to continue unfettered.

The average man in the street thinks a republican is the bloke who runs his local.

Whilst I experience a certain amount of cognitive dissonance when considering the monarchy, I'd be interested to see an example of a better figurehead than the current Queen.

Are you in favour of a centralised Federal Europe?

Find something more important to worry about, nonentity.

The cost is minimal. The money that Brown squanders every hour is what most of us worry about.

You. I seem to have descended into some parallel world where the countries economy is being crippled by a government of mind-blowing ineptitude, where taxation is at an all time high, fuel costs are starting to skyrocket again and yet people are arguing over 69p a year. I don't mind buying one less Mars Bar on the off-chance that one day the Queen will tell Brown to fk off.

No offence intended but why do people always come out with such bks on this subject.

Most other countries do OK with an elected head of state.

An elected head of state can be removed after serving his or term of office.

The US system guarantees that no one can serve more than two terms.

We are stuck with our head of state until they peg out or decide to quit.

Our Queen has no real power. The current expenses crisis should have caused parliament to be dissolved and a temporary government appointed by the head of state until the parties sorted themselves and an election called.

The Queens is just a ceremonial head of state.
To those claiming that we don't want a president Brown, Blair or which ever PM is in office. Well that is just what we do have in effect and will continue to have until we rid ourselves of our outdated system of a constitutional monarchy and replace with an elected head of state.

You want to remove the most recognised person in the world from the country?

You want to remove the main reason people tourists come to London, to see the Queen?

No tourists wouldn't come if she was removed, as then it is just a building.
