Not Canute John, Broon's King .
the great said:
"Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws."
Canute was making a point about the hubris of any man believing he could control nature, at least that is the story, apocryphal as it may be. So the story is even more appropriate to climate change than most people realise.

Was that a smelling pistake on the quotes? And yes, Canute was proving the hubris of man.

If only we could learn from ancient history, it's still spectacularly accurate...

Beaten to that by the ABD in 2001
"Association Of British Drivers Forecast:
Storm Brewing Over Global Warming
As global warming activists continue to pour out information pollution, the ABD casts serious doubt on any blame for climate change attached to mankind's activities.
ABD Environment Spokesman, Bernard Abrams, comments:

"There is overwhelming evidence that variable solar activity is responsible for climate change. The role of the Sun has been under-estimated all along, a fact recently confirmed by research from the European Space Agency. Given that mankind is not responsible for 'global warming', attempts to reverse climate change through carbon taxes are King Canute strategies - they are bound to fail. Gordon Brown might as well tax the Sun for shining."

"We are now, in any case, in a significant period of global cooling, something which the carbon dioxide alarmists cannot explain."

You guys are sooo weird. What's wrong with pointing out that the Gordon Brown/King Canute meme isn't an original thought?

Are you stalking me across the forums or something?

That Bernard Abrams bloke seemed pretty much ahead of teh curve, if that's a quote from 2001.

Can you believe 8 years later they are still trying to ram this st down our throats.

The earth's climate changes. It has done so for millenia. There is no magic switch. Get over it you yoghurt weaving meddlers.

I'd quite like to see a description of exactly where the data for the plots came from, they look distinctly dodgy to me (note that none of them even have the y-axis labelled so you can tell what was actually plotted).
