Got to love the EU! rofl

"The European Union has declared travelling a human right, and is launching a scheme to subsidize vacations with taxpayers' dollars for those too poor to afford their own trips.
Which EU taxpayers do so in dollars exactly? Very sloppy journalism.

There is a deficit that is around 50% of GDP and they want to spend tax money to send people on holiday ?
Yes, you have to give them top marks for timing as well as the basic idea itself laugh

I want to go to Rio and shag my way through Carnival Week. Which address in Brussels do I send my travel invoice to?

I think you would think I was stark raving mad to suggest this, but the policy is actually a very good one.

With policies around that tax the movement of people in general, soon Mr Average will not be able to see the sights of the UK, let alone anywhere else in Europe without being financially crippled. In many respects that is condemning people to a life experienced in East Germany - unless you were a high ranking party member or an Elite Athelete, travel out of the country was near impossible.

By putting a provision in that it is the right of people to travel it keeps the other stuff in perspective.

It may be that you get to spend two weeks in a tent abroad, but nevertheless, it is better than not even having the option.
Yeah, but paying almost as much to drive my car to see my parents 25 miles away - 75% of them taxes - as what low cost airlines - by lack of taxes - charge the great unwashed to stick their *rses on a beach in some far away counntry does grate somewhat.

Having 8% of my monthly salary tucked away by my employer through law, only to give it to me in Sprimg as 'vacation money' does smack of patriarchism, too. Apart from four days at the Mille Miglia with a colleague journo two years ago I've never been on holiday in my adult life; I'm traveling all over Europe for work as it is and find that rather more culturally enlightening that to go to some random place on my own where I have no business with the locals at all, just to get sunburnt during the day and pi55ed off my face at night.
