Never heard of any Argentinan cars, and if I remember correctly all their planes are semi obsolete Dasault Mirages (French)
There is an outfit that makes some superb Bugatti Type 35 replicas. That would need to be preserved in the event of them upsetting us!

Our submarines would sink their navy over night, also we could point some cruise missiles at them from these also!

Argentina would currently be hard pressed to launch a convincing assault on a Chilean goat farm, let alone an island defended by Typhoons, Astute class nuclear subs and the World's most powerful air defence destroyer, the type 45. The fact that a 41 year old plane like the Harrier has been retired is neither here nor there.

I wouldn't count pn that, there are quite a few sandbanks between here and the Falklands.

You are aware the type 45 has no missiles?

The Harrier concept may be 40+ years old but the Harrier II's that were prematurely withdrawn yesterday were built in the late 80's early 90's as GR.5's and had there most recent upgrade only 3 years ago.

As war birds go there not tht old.

The concept is actually almost 60 years old - but the later Harrier were much more modern.

The Harrier is a bit like the Caterham. Just because the basic design goes back a long way doesn't mean that modern 7s have that much in common with the original Lotus 7 of 1957.

Added to which is the fact the army has 500 men in the Falklands whereas in 1982 there was only a token garrison.

Yes and we can use them to shoot down the planes Argentina doesn't have.

They struggled with prehistoric A4 Skyhawks in the Falklands until the US sent us the latest Sidewinders. Excellent aircraft though the Harrier is for many roles, air to air combat is not it's forte and that's what's needed to defend an island.

Our hardware may just about be up to it, the personnel certainly are.

But we are missing just one thing - Maggie Thatcher.

I'm aware Wiki is not the bastion of all knowledge and truths but

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_Air_Force#I...

Theres a few planes there capable of giving someone a bloody nose.
