People are interested in people like themselves. That can mean look like themselves, live where they live, etc.

It's why millions of brown babies in Africa die and no one minds....10 in the uk would be headline news.

The average reader of papers or watchers of news in the uk is White, has a job, etc.

Nothing surprising.

Well she's back I guess the boyfriend didn't like the attention she was now bringing him.

What's the betting he doesn't get done for sex with a minor???

Excellent news that she's been found.

My post above wasn't intended to sound as mocking as it might have read and was to some extent a reaction to the utter tripe/fantastic speculation that has been posted as fact on the Yeates thread, along with the bleedin' obvious posted as original thought. I didn't want the girl dead, I just wanted her found.

I happened to be working in one of our South London offices yesterday and a quick canvass of the staff there revealed that to a man they were full of absolute tosh were very knwoledgable on the Yeates case but none of them were even aware of the missing girl less than two miles away. That says something for the lack of attention she had been given. While I understand teenage girls (even young teenage girls) have a habit of leaving home I found this case to be interesting because she had no previous record of this sort of thing and has been out of contact for three weeks over the coldest Christmas period for years.

At what point would I have wanted a media storm to help find my daughter if I found myself in such a situation? While it may be co-incidence it is remarkable that within 12 hours of a heightened media effort the girl was found.

And yes, tonker, it's a shame her search will have cost the wider taxpayer a few quid, but I'd bet the search cost barely a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of policing the recent student marches, for example, or a multitude of other incidents we could name ad nauseum. Let's just hope the girl doesn't do it again. Or get pregnant and demand a council flat (she won't be getting one from Merton or Wandsworth councils I can promise her).

I just think it seems odd - certainly no less odd than the disappearance of Jo Yeates

Lee Webster, aged 50, told the Star his wife Sally, aged 48, of Laird Avenue, Wadsley, went missing last Saturday while he was working on the roof of their home.

When he came back inside he said he discovered the mum-of-two had vanished and she was not seen all weekend.

The alarm was raised when she did not turn up for work at interiors shop Within Reason on Devonshire Street on Monday.

That one does seem very odd. There surely must be more to it than is being reported - I can't imagine a Mum leaving teenage girls.

In the Bristol girls case there was immediate evidence - her purse, keys and mobile phone still being at home - that something bad had happenned.

Two options:-

Find the biggest body of water near by or secluded forest she's in there floating or hanging..

Find out who she was banging and that's where she is...

Teenage kids stress before christmas

Do you not think the police/reporters behind the story know what the likley outcome is? I'd have thought it wouldnt have taken the people talking to the Yates relatives and knowing the circumstances of her vanashing to twig that it looked very iffy indeed. Likewise - I expect conversations with the London girls folks/mates and evidence of what she went missing with and how/where led the police/media to think it looked like every other missing kid case in London (of whcih there are hundreads with most poping up when they get cold)

Very odd that she went missing on Saturday but was only reported when she failed to turn up for work on Monday.

My missus drives me bonkers by saying she's going to the supermarket (on the edge of town) but then deciding to go into town as well, so she's gone for 3-4 hours instead of the 90mins I expected. I'd be out of my mind if she didn't come back overnight.

'Yesterday police officers revealed they were about to reinterview the teenager's friends and had received reported sightings of her over Christmas.'

Not quite the same as Jo Yeates and nothing to do with hair colour or race.
One ended up murdered so appropriately more column inches.

That and thousands of teenagers run away from home every year.
