yes there was a lot of talk of sensible green issues and not driving which funnily enough just made me drive faster down the m62.

I missed the begining and end of it though probably because I was driving too fast.

I also said in the other thread that no government would ever cut fuel duty. 13 years of Labour have made me feel that I'll always get hammered as a motorist!

So the 40p rate has gone up to 45p but the 25p rate has not been increased, so those who use their cars as a "perk" will be better off but those of us using them day and daily for business will not be.
Strange logic there.
Earlier in the thread there was reference to a 12p rate that can be clawed back from HMRC for mileage done in a company car. Any one know if this has been increased?

That rate varies twice a year in response to average fuel prices and MPG stats - it can be changed more frequently that that if fuel goes up by more than 10%.

Why would one use one's own car on company business as a 'perk'?

Indeed. I hate having to use my car for work - its certainly not a perk thank you very much.

For those doing over 10k miles a year you will get an additional £500pa that's certainly going to help and in isolation should pay for annual car insurance.

So say INS is £500
mot £50
tax £200
servicing £350
tyres guess new set every 25k so average £250 per 10k

so total of above is £1350
then fuel let's say your car does 0.16 per mile so that's £1600

so grand total of c£2k cost for the first 10k miles therefore an additional £2.5k to pay for more tyres more servicing.

It's a benefit.

After 10k as I've illustrated you only need to pay for fuel and 0.25 is roughly 25mpg in a petrol as I've just filled up the wifes car brim to brim. Should be enough. I mean driving an M5 would just be silly

Yep me too. I do quite a bit of driving for work and avoid using my own car as much as possible, despite my colleagues insisting "Oooh 40p per mile, you'll be raking it in!". Will I bks.
