Agreed. I was dozing on the sofa after a nightshift last night and had the TV on in the background on the BBC News channel. I heard the presenter saying something along the lines of, "the police used disproportionate force" and wondered what it was about so went online and saw it was about squatters with petrol-bombs. "Disproportionate force" - I don't think so, not enough force.
Really, how do the beeb get away with it?
how do they get away with reporting what a bystander said? You weren't listening properly were you, you can hardly justifiably get annoyed at something you half heard.Really, how do the beeb get away with it?

""I think there were two waves. The first one anti-Tesco, then it calmed down and turned into a street party.
"It turned quite festive - people were playing Louis Armstrong. Then it turned into a riot, there was a barricade of bins and skips on fire.
"It turned into a running battle for about two hours."
So it was a protest that turned into a party that turned into a riot then into a fight!
Can't tesco build them a stadium, it's what they normally do![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

This is just the sort of thing the police could use positively to regain the publics trust and faith.
When large organisation operate outside of public interests and wishes, such things as opposing liquer sales/license and generally making trading difficult would show the public which side of the law you are all on and that you are in it together.

The cogs of bureaucracy move freely when oiled with money. Tesco are notorious for it.When large organisation operate outside of public interests and wishes, such things as opposing liquer sales/license and generally making trading difficult would show the public which side of the law you are all on and that you are in it together.

The remit as I understand it is law and order, tescos ignorance of planning laws and comittees is causing unrest.
The police could act if they wanted to.
Really? The police could act if they wanted to.

You believe it is for the Police to intervene when an LA gives the go ahead to a company like Tesco to build a new store, against the wishes of the local population (minority or majority view)?
Glad you have nothing to grumble about with your council tax bill!

I've been wondering when a community whose views are ignored would finally snap at a "planning" decision.
Could you tell me how many were for it and how many against the hugely convinient small shop?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-13169...

They didnt need to smash it up just not shop there then it would close. People who wanted it would shop there.
That would be the true comunity view.
a few squatters with far far left sentiments didn't want it there. They never want anything though do they those sorts.

fergy, sorry i'm on phone so cannot quote. I was onabout when they go ahead eith a store before permission is granted as they have done many times.
This store had correct planning and licencing confirmations in place, I attended a number of the hearings myself (as said previously, I was an interested party until not that long ago).fergywales said:
