I think you'll get a lot less tactical voting and therefore it could have quite a big effect. You no longer have to think, I support A but they won't get in so I'll vote B. Now you can just put A first and B second.

What happens if we've all been voting B when we really want A?
This is what i feel

I can't imagine any sane person voting blue tie other then to get rid of red tie

That said we do have 14% on i don't care which one has a blue tie

It might yes

If a party with a truly radical and Libertarian agenda came along they would get my first preferance and the Tories the second.

Those voting NO

Is it because you would choose a major party as No1?

Yes, thanks, I thought I'd slip it in, in case anyone on this thread hadn't seen the other thread and hadn't thought about the potential disaster.

Sorry to upset you, I'm sure you'll recover by morning...smile

It won't make a jot of difference even if adopted. The vast majority will just put an X next to the candidate they want and ignore all the others as they are entitled to do.
Sorry, I disagree.

Sadly many are not as intelligent (or interested in politics) as political correctness says they should be credited as being. Hence, were we to have AV, I suspect that a significant number would either:
1) Be under the mistaken view that they NEEDED to vote for three candidates; or
2) Take the view that they "might as well use them all".

Hell, look at all the number of people who can't even get right a simple concept like "stay left unless overtaking"...

BTW, the poll doesn't take into account whether or not there are more than a single candidate you'd deem acceptable.

Where i live its so Tory/ Liberal that we dont even have a Labour candidate..
So yes, it would be good if we had AV, then i could make my true intentions known, yet still not waste my vote.
However if The *CON*servatives do a good job, then i may change my vote altogether.

It would change the way I vote as I'd end up invalidating the voting slip. I will only vote for the party I want to see in power, I really can't see the point of me voting in any form for a party that I don't want to see in power.
So my voting slip would only have one vote. And I'm guessing in a AV election this would invalidate the voting slip.
You can only vote for one person if you want to.

Or, indeed, you can vote for only one person if you want to.

What if there isn't a candidate or party that is sufficiently anti-EU, anti-big govt, anti-socialist and anti-green? Do you vote for the party nearest your requirements or not vote at all?

I would vote for the best fit to my views

Anyone who votes on tie colour should be banned from voting

So it looks like the best fit of the "big parties" is the conservatives. hehe

Who'da thunk it?

I'm not a fan of any of the mainstream parties and tend to vote for the least worst. They are all turds, I just try and vote in the most polished one.

Would AV therefore change how I vote? Yes it would.

I would be the first to say that the Conservatives could be more radical, though their actions are constrained by governing in coalition.

But can you seriously say there are no real policy differences between them and the mouth piece of the public sector unions (Labour).

Neither had pulled out of Europe - so the majority of what they do is just rubber-stamping EU dictats.

The only real difference is how much money they spend implementing the dictats.

Perhaps the people you perceive as voting by tie colour are actually just voting for the party that has the best fit to their views from the available choice, rather like you do?
