So does he

A, work at said recovery garage and has taped the front up due to collision damage
The front rads will be covered to enable the car to heat up to temp quicker. Might have a knackered thermostat. Although Landies have pretty good cooling systems to cope with desert weather extremes I believe so it might just be to warm it up quicker.
Maybe but that wasn't the type of covering for tht, it was body shop masking paper type stuff, given the wether in that area past couple of days you can be assured that hasn't been outside like that. So has he done it, the garage done it on his request or the police done it?

The police probably covered the plates up when they first recovered it before they decided to release the pictures of it

This country!!

Apparently, questioning of the suspect stopped while he was allowed his 'statutory' 8 hrs rest.
I give up!
have to do that or he will walk at trial!

That's good.
You clearly have no idea about questioning a suspect and the importance of complying with PACE.
( which can be suspended in circumstances of urgency - but you obviously know best)

The one thing that Landy is not is a cream coloured transit.

NOT white or cream but LHD. I thought the children said it was light coloured?

While I believe that someone who kidnaps a child should be shown no mercy.

This guy is being questioned and is suspected, that in my eyes doesnt give the police the right to deprive the guy of sleeping and eating, its a thin end of the wedge that leads to proper torture methods.

I know time is paramount in cases like this and im sure the police are doing everything they can in this regard.

I hope they find her soon, alive and well. My heart sank when I first heard about this. frown

Sky Twitter is saying the Police are mobilising a hovercraft to search the estuary. As much as I hope this girl is tied up in a tent or in a locked building somewhere, waiting to be found this to me (and other evidence released so far) points to her being dumped in the river. frown

Of course I don't otherwise I'd be one of you.
I know the act was introduced in the 80s and has had lots of changes since - as a member of the public I was just venting my frustrations, like many others.

And where did I say I know best? I just said I give up.

Yes, I'm afraid I agree. As time goes on and she is not found, hope is fading, whether it is this chap or not.

Who kidnaps a child?

Then again who could do harm to a child kidnap or not.

If the man arrested is guilty and knows where she is they should set the dogs on him until he tells them.

Could be the start of his defence 'she was alive when I left her on the riverbank' etc.

Yes. And then set them on him some more.

Why do people allow themselves to get so wound up by this? What do you gain by watching this story unfold?

Wouldn't it be healthier to just leave them to it?

That's rather the point. He isn't guilty, he is just a suspect, the police don't have enough evidence to charge him otherwise they would have done so already. Even if they do charge him he is not guilty until that evidence is tested in court and the jury find him so.

If you want to live in a country where the police routinely torture suspects, then head for India, or Turkey. I'd prefer to live in a country with due process, and accept the limitations that that brings. So step away from the pitchforks fellas, that's not how we do things here.

Thing is, that law was introduced in 1984 to stop Gene Hunt and his ilk from beating confessions out of 'wrong'uns'.

If the wrong person goes down for this, that means that the right person goes free and we never really find out what happened - not to mention that it could happen again.

IIRC Peter Sutcliffe committed more murders because the Police at the time were absolutely convinced they'd got the right guy - how do you presume they got him to confess to it, and was it worth those other lives?

Sometimes the public desire for instant torches 'n' pitchforks justice gets in the way of people doing a proper job. The only 'this country!' accusation in this case needs aiming at the likes of the Daily Mail.

I can see, and agree, with the introduction of it to prevent the Gene Hunt beating the f... out of the suspect.

But the diddums sleep deprivation of a suspect, while a 5-year-old victim could be left out in the wilds of night part loses me I'm afraid.

Question is, whe do you draw the line?
