He did indeed purchase a ticket. First Class at that. His purchased that day mobile was used to watch Islamist jihad videos moments before boarding. I guess his lawyer will now say, oh, he found the cash and phone in the bag too.
Interesting that so much detail is in the public domain already. Is this in the French press?rohrl said:

Look at the border between US and Canada or Mexico, they are policed yet trade still flourishes.
That border control between Mexico and the US is pretty effective at stopping illegal migrants and contraband isn't it?Scuffers said:

Could mainland Europe realistically control its internal borders at all?
Nope, they would have to check inside every artic, bus, car boot and van etc - just not practical without bringing Europe to a stand......unless each border post had about 100 border agency staff on each shift, but who's gonna pay for that up front, even though it would still probably be cheaper in the long term.hell, I remember being stopped at the France/Belgian border a few times driving though.
people keep going on about it would be doomsday to reinstate border controls, and whilst I am sure it's not trivial, it's most certainly do-able, every other country in the world manages it OK.

It still won't stop the determined illegals being smuggled around the sides though, in the middle of nowhere.

further info in french press:
he didn't take an earlier train that had seats
the gun was not an AK47, but various parts of an east german type AKM gun
he listened to jihadi songs on the train itself on the mobile he activated that day
the AKM is just an updated version of the AK47he didn't take an earlier train that had seats

I remember them well, but I'm with you, bring 'em back, as long as it's resourced properly and records are kept of those travelling in/out, just like what happens when you travel to the USA etc.

A token effort may be do-able, but to be effective would mean properly searching every car, van and lorry that passes through the crossing, that's not realistically possible. Even the crossing into and out of the UK at Calais isn't particularly rigorous, I came back from France on the ferry earlier this month and was just waved through. It still won't stop the determined illegals being smuggled around the sides though, in the middle of nowhere.
Even when the authorities do make a strenuous effort to check passengers it descends into farce, has airport security ever achieved anything other than amassing a huge collection of confiscated nail clippers, penknives, and bottles of water, or embarrassing travelers by making them walk through shoeless when they've got a big hole in their sock (which caused much schoolboy amusement when a very proper female colleague of mine did the walk of shame at Heathrow recently).

And from Radio 5 Live, he was carrying a bottle filled with petrol. Dear, oh dear. Some people will drink anything. I suppose he found that under a bush as well.he didn't take an earlier train that had seats
