Is everyone deliberately avoiding the elephant in the room, or has it already been discussed: does the driver own the car in the crash, or was it a customers?
Isn't it a bit irrelevant? Digga said:

Is that >really< the elephant in the room?youngsyr said:
Well, everything else about it seems to have been discussed, including some wild speculation about the state of the car's tyres and a blow by blow account of how the crash might have happened.
Wild speculation? Why are you on a car forum looking at this type of thread if you have a problem with people speculating as to why this happened and what might have contributed...? Seriously, why, what else do you expect? Reasonable questions have been asked and discussed. Nothing particularly wild about it. Most if not all of what has been said is also perfectly valid to question.

However, I would call posts voicing concerns about whether the car had been in storage for a long period prior, resulting in hard tyres, which caused the crash wild speculation. There isn't one iota of fact to support it. Ditto the post detailing how the car might have somersaulted over the fence and then come to rest on them.
Here are the particular posts I'm referring to, they're not questioning, they're speculating - wildly:

Looking at the photos of the posts that have been knocked out of the ground on the grass verge, I'm going to surmise that the car would probably have somersaulted after hitting those first, possibly landing into the fencing upside down , and must have been travelling at high speed to take out the post seen lying in the ground.
It's mostly a carbon fibre car yes? Glorified plastic, incredibly strong in some circumstances/design criteria and surprisingly weak in other ways that it's not supposed to be strong in

it could have been sat in storage for months and months on tyres that were hardening and out of condition.
That was one of my first thoughts, absolutely terrible for all those involved.Never driven anything as exotic as a F50 but having been out in a few PH'ers cars can imagine how quickly things can change. Hope the driver makes a full recovery, will be difficult for him. But his family and friends must also be devastated.
RIP.
The accident happened one minute into the ride. Cold tyres/dusty concrete road/too much throttle = tankslapper?

Wild speculation is a natural occurrence after any event / tragedy.
If there's a plane crash, there will be speculation about terrorism, pilot error etc etc etc. No different where there's a nasty car prang. It's human nature to be inquisitive.
There's a vast difference between being inquisitive and publishing wild speculation for all to see, IMO.If there's a plane crash, there will be speculation about terrorism, pilot error etc etc etc. No different where there's a nasty car prang. It's human nature to be inquisitive.

I've never seen that. Looked it up and it is indeed sobering.
For anyone who might have missed it (it's from 2007) it starts on page 3.

Thanks Soov - quoted this instead because of the link. That's one of the most valuable threads I have ever read. I hope its still around when my lads start driving. What happened to 10PS!? What happened to Hooray Henry!?I've never seen that. Looked it up and it is indeed sobering.

If you want facts go find a wiki page. It's a forum, where people come to talk and chat. Perhaps someone with first hand information might turn up and put people straight. Or they probably won't.
Out of interest, having read some of the comments on here, especially from MOTK who clearly has first hand info, do you have an opinion on what may have happened?

Actually, I found a link totally by accident - because the crash wasn't anywhere near Winchester - it was quite local to me, at North Wanborough near Odiham

Very sad.
I was driving on that stretch of road only last week.
I visit Newlyn's farmshop quite regularly. I didn't know you were local to me, Eric.http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/local-news/teen...

Hugely sad that a young life has been lost.
