A nice outcome would have been if they could have just settled it prior to an apology, some cash changing hands, perhaps a publicly announced donation to a Thai charity working with sex trafficking victims.

And to try and equate being told to 'stick it' equates to a sex act is a very immature argument for an adult to make.
Barely registers above a bit of blokey banter does it? No idea how the quip was so badly misconstrued.

Even millionaires and billionaires can have family and friends to keep them grounded. It clearly seems like he has few of either.

Yeah, and in my opinion he just dug himself into a deeper hole by using such a lame justification for making such a serious and damaging accusation.

We all make mistakes. When they happen, what you do to make it right is what people remember. Phoning the guy, making a personal apology, offering to make proper amends probably including a significant charitable donation followed by a proper, unequivocal public apology would probably be close to what is required.

I do actually believe he has some very able people who are close to him who are offering sound advice. But his arrogance is breathtaking. Maybe he has started to believe the hype that is is truly some kind of messiah scratchchin

At the time, I imagine one of the prime issues or concerns would have been that, whether or not the sub would have been useful, it would need to have been deployed under the overall charge of the team leading the rescue and, from what we're led to believe (and seems to be conveyed by Msuk's Tweets) their command was not sufficiently recognised. This, plus the incredibly dangerous and time critical nature of the rescue would have mean Musk's interjections were unhelpful distractions at best and, at worst, highly disruptive. The comments he therefore received should - to any normal, rational person - have been filtered through the bit of brain that says "I am dealing with a highly stressed and extremely busy individual who presently feels the responsibility for a large number of human lives". Lacking emotional intelligence or the ability to listen as well as broadcast are not useful traits, no matter how wealthy an individual.

I think all of these people should just stop using ttter, it seems to me that celebrities and people in the public eye always seem to bring about their own downfall by posting utter ste on there. Just stop doing it, if you want the people that are interested in you to know something, do a carefully prepped press release. ttter really does seem to be the beginning of the end for so many.

Except that the person who he was dealing with asked him to continue developing his mini sub (after Musk asked if would be worthwhile)

Doesn't excuse his comments after though.

It wasn't. All that anyone who wasn't directly involved can go on is what appeared in the media as attributed to Thai officials and/or those who were directly involved.

An official (Thai) has confirmed it was of no use, and given that one of the rescuers was reported as saying that at one point when totally submerged he had to remove his oxygen tanks to get through a narrow opening, the sub would have needed to be unusually thin and bendy to do any good. Chances?

yes
Earlier on in this thread I said:
Last week, Narongsak Osottanakorn, the head of the rescue operation said Musk's submarine wasn't suitable for the task. Musk tweeted that Osottanakorn was “not the subject matter expert.”

Two things are bleedin' obvious.

Musk has not come out of this episode at all well.

Nor has Tesla's share price.

It's very much a veiled apology from Musk. "His actions against me blah blah blah.."

His behaviour to journalists and investors has been on a downward spiral for a while. You would think he would be brave enough to get coaching on meedja.

have to agree with that. out of all the retorts he could have used considering his supposed intelligence, why on earth did he decide to label someone he knows nothing about a "pedo". if had just called him a fking ahole this would have blown over already.

Probably because he's a sociopath, which his ex wife found out the hard way.

It's great for some things (like getting to be the boss, getting people to do what you want and all that jazz) but features include narcissism and impulsive behaviour.

It's the impulsive behaviour bit that always causes the most trouble in the end because it completely cancels out any planning or intelligence.

Basically he got wound up by someone being rude to him and immediately lashed out in the nastiest way he could come up with quickly without thinking through what the consequences would be.

I'd bet a signed dollar within 10 minutes he was thinking 'oh st I shouldnt have done that, there were others ways to get at him, how can I sort out this mess' plus 'fk that guy, that ahole, he's to blame for all this'.

I'l bet it took a lot longer than 10mins for him to agree to back down...and I bet he argued all the way to the keyboard. Petulant ring piece.

He also wasn't lashing out against someone who was being rude to him. Merely someone who appeared to know much more about what they're talking about than Elon. Which doesn't seem to be a particularly exclusive group...the diver was right - Musk saw a massive PR opportunity. And f*cked it up.

One of the people involved asked him to continue developing it, but not the British guy who was in charge of the rescue op IIRC.

Yes, I know he has apologised.............?

But the Thai media continue to castigate him as a piece of st! He belittled all the Thais and other International supporters who gave so much to rescue the kids.

Not his finest hour.

To be fair, unmarried old British bloke retires to Thailand... If you didn't know the back story, it would be quite easy to jump to conclusions about why he chose there. You rarely hear about Geoff and Linda retiring out there, just Mick or Dave or Rog, all on their own. (Devils advocate.)

Musk is still a cock.
