I thought she was fantastic.

Mentioning 1945 and then the Wilson "white heat of technology" really resonated with me,
She's a star and a damned sexy looking woman too.
If I had one wish granted today it would be to flat share with her and Auntie norks. It would be marvellous mental and other areas stimulation.
Is that you TechieDave?

In fairness, I don't care how slimy they are or how many kids they've got as long as they do a good job and deliver on the interests of the nation.
....which basically rules out the Labour Party. Full stop.

They have never, ever, delivered on or in the interest of the Nation.

so, who's going to be the next leader of the Labour Party then?
Kier Starmer. Pretty long odds against any other outcome.

The fact that a healthy democracy relies on there being some form of viable opposition.
Hopefully, the collapse of this current labour shower of ste into a black hole of their own making will create an opportunity for someone else to become that viable opposition.

If Starmer gets it (which looks very likely), he is surely going to get a really rough time from his own party members. I can't see Momentum etc. taking it lying down.
They have already started attacking him, you will see a lot more "Blair Stooge" type posts/story's, those and the BBC being Anti Rebecca Long-Failure by highlighting the "continuity Corbyn" type stuff.
They'd rather woke themselves into obscurity than build a centrist coalition and have a realistic possibility of power.

With any luck, the hard left will get so annoyed they’ll bugger off and form a new party.
We can hope.

Yep, it is taking too long in my opinion.

Although the speed of the Tory system is better, the membership themselves will only ever get to vote on one of two candidates as the Tory MPs whittle them down to two first.

On balance as a member of a political party, I prefer the labour system, which is just as well because that’s my “camp”. It doesn’t play as well for the wider electorate though.

We’ve probably got >4 years until the next GE so it shouldn’t hurt too much in the long-run.
I think it hurts a lot, it makes labour look even more irrelevant and like nobody is running the party for an extended period.

The uk’s been without decent opposition in parliament for years and now we know corbyn’s finally going but it takes ages to find a replacement.

It feels to me like we’re in a one party country with labour libdems brexit (whatever) all in the wilderness.

Waiting ages for labour to get their act together whilst they point out what’s wrong with each other and how they all get why they’ve been rejected doesn’t help their position at all.

He's been suspended pending an investigation. Not quite sent packing (as yet).
No, now just weeks media smearing for what I (as an ex-muslim) perceive to be some fairly even handed commentary on Islam over the years.

Yea, I've not seen anything myself which I think justifies him being suspended or kicked out, but I don't know all of the details.

Problem is, after the st-show of the way antisemitism has been dealt with (or rather not dealt with), the party is damned if they do, damned if they don't. It would be a shame if TP became a largely innocent (to my eyes) victim of what has been a complete mess on the part of the party.
I'm just concerned that valid criticisms will be swept away as "islamophobia" and we'll end up in an environment arises where the likes of Rotherham become possible again.

That was IMO a failing of the police to properly investigate and take action against alleged criminals. If they had done their jobs properly, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I see where you're coming from though.
Oh no doubt. It all comes from the same "musn't criticise Islam or you're wacist" nonsense which is likely propogated equally through local services be they social or police.

Trevor Philips has a history of being unfashionably even handed on other contentious issues too. IIRC he has expressed uncertainty over both "positive discrimination" and avoiding the targetting of specific groups to reduce their noted propensity for knife crime.

Sort of the anti-Lammy smile
Yeah indeed. I fail to understand how Labour let the tail wag the dog without realising this sort of froth mouthed identity based politics only succeeds in alienating their core constituents.

When did they ever need justification? Any excuse is good enough.

In light of the current Corona Virus issue and the recommendation to avoid meetings and stuff I think it would be a sensible and practical response to postpone the Leadership election.

Jeremy has shown great leadership over this and its clear that the Conservatives have taken on board some of Jeremys concerns about how it will affect people.

Looking like it’s properly over for Labour, like forever. Can’t see how they will ever win another election. As bad as Covid-19 has been for the world, for the Tories it’s fallen into their lap, the last 10 days I’ve seen many people who were telling people to NEVER vote Tory at the last election absolutely gushing over Rishi Sunaks budget, then the £330bn for businesses and yesterday the 80% subsidisation of wages. Feels to me that people will look back on this moment and whatever happens with Covid-19 will only look fondly at the performance of Sunak. Not only that but if Brexit doesn’t end up being all “sunlit uplands” and does indeed damage the economy further then the conservatives can turn around and say “it’s the viruses fault”. That’s before you even consider the 3 leadership candidates, I think this virus could have put the final nail in the coffin for Labour. Question is, what comes next? Where’s the opposition going to come from?

Looks ever increasingly like the labour leadership contest will be cancelled and Jeremy remains as leader.

We just can't seem to get rid of this bloody virus!
I said this ages back. Anyway when you have a crisis you need stability and leadership and Jeremy and John have heavily influenced government policy
Bravo! At these difficult times we need a strong & stable opposition to keep the Tories honest.
You’re right, we do, though it’s hard to see where it will ever come from. There’s none at all right now, as we know, and nothing viable on horizon.

So Starmer gets it. Pity. I was hoping Wrong Bailey would win and consign the Labour Party as we know it to history.

Oh well , might still happen.
