I would imagine a secure phone line is fine when both sides have an interest in keeping the conversation secure, but with Meg I can imagine there isn't much confidence in her keeping up her side of the bargain regarding not recording.
yes
Yep, I would think she is "banking" a lot of stuff at the moment. A recorded phone call is a nice deposit to gather.

get some people have a beef about inheritence etc... I also guess those beefs don't apply to whatever they might leave their own offspring/relatives/chums as "that's different").
People can't leave a constructional office in their inheritance. The only equivalence is the private goods of Bet Windsor, and no-one is saying take them off her.

Best she doesn't fall out with Kanye West. He might do an Elton and rerelease one of is famous hits with a reworked lyric.

With three other grandkids and a.... less compliant.... Mum I doubt that's much of a trump card. Harry is the one with most to lose here.

I don't doubt Harry's financials could change but by any measure he will remain a very wealthy person and Meghan's cut of that (whatever happens between them) is secured by the baby

It’s all a bit like trump, control the message and circumvent the media with your own direct news and press releases. Make your own money still but also elevate your brand with public titles and tax payer’s money while trying to avoid the scrutiny that goes with your role.

Why wouldn’t she be relaxed? She’s got what she wanted, and buggered off to leave hubby to deal with the fallout

Exactly, she has all the aces, massively improved her ‘star’ credentials, and has screwed over the royals. Clever girl.

Or maybe it's just been massively over sensationalised with lots of made up "Palace insider" comments, and the odd pics of the queen looking misserable.

Not sure Harry has thought this though. He hates the press and thinks that stepping back will take the pressure off. It won’t, it is pouring blood into the water, and exposing him to a world of press intrusion without the protection of palace press advisers. It is alienating the UK public, who had been generally supportive, and it has created a market for dirt on his friends and finances that never existed before.

I'm not sure why people are still believing the "stepping back" nonsense. There is no stepping back, it's more a swap, or even a stepping up, from British press to US press that she thinks she can control better and make more use of in her long game. She's already made sure that's she's been photographed at the head offices of two women's organisations this week alone, I don't call that stepping back, stepping back would be going to ground surely? Also if you were "stepping back", then the last thing you'd have is an active instagram account and a pompous website, no? So let's stop with the "stepping back" pretence now I think.

They have more than proven that they can in fact have a very quiet and hidden life, still based in the UK, when it suits them --- there was almost no press coverage of them for months during the middle part of last year until the Africa trip when they suddenly went all sue-happy, air travel preachy-happy, then did the ITV documentary, then the announcement that they would be having six weeks off. Indeed for the first few weeks of those six weeks, nobody (in public anyway) had a clue where in the world they were, it was only towards the end that "word got out" that they were in Canada. They absolutely have shown that they can totally disappear for weeks or months at a time when they want to!

It looks likely that the UK public will simply forget all about both of them, unless they turn up for some event or other. A shame really as I thought that Harry had a lot yet to offer, and had barely matured into a sensible adult.

I’m beginning to think that what Meghan wants isn’t what Harry wants

Whilst Meghan wants to use the name and seek her ( sorry their ) fortune Harry would quite happily disappear into the African bush and live completely under the radar

Methinks the poor lad has been had

The familial and political ramifications have yet to play out whilst Meghan is already full steam on her new life

And when I say her new life, I do actually mean that in the singular, Harry will have have to tag along or break free

When the point at which he actually gives his head a wobble comes, I don’t know, but for his future wellbeing I hope it comes sooner rather than later

I don’t think we are looking at a happy ending
