What about the people who do have jobs and who can afford a $20,000 car, but not an identical one for $60,000? Should they expect a massive pay rise?
People should maybe be more realistic about the real cost of consumer goods - both in currency and what that is doing to the longer term prospects of economic prosperity in their country, and what effect that might ultimately have on themselves. You picked a poor example with the cost of a car though - as evidenced by recent threads here there seems to be an overwhelming move to get cars on some sort of finance deal which invariably means you never really own the car. Another example of how credit has stepped in to replace a decent, stable, income.

Protests expected in dull, tracksuit-filled market town in England. Ridiculous.

I'm sure that the billionaire, son of a billionaire, knows exactly what their lives are like. He's a man of the people, a man from the streets. Fifth Avenue to be precise. ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
Yes, he's a man of the people replacing Washington corruption with his family and friends from Goldman Sachs. ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

The people voted for Trump because they are sick of these people telling them how to live their lives when they haven't a clue what their lives are even like.
Its the little people who voted him in perhaps you also think they must all be thick and racist.

I'm astounded people think voting for Trump is a vote for the common person.
Very few people think that a vote for Trump is a vote for a common person or someone who truly represents a common person. It is however, the aforementioned 'common person' giving two fingers to the establishment which has been serving us a succession of stooges who ignore the wishes of the electorate in order to keep the rich and powerful, rich and powerful since, well, forever.
Whether or not Trump demonstrates he will truly break with the establishment order - or is even any good at doing his job - remains to be seen, but it's excellent news that people are cottoning on to having been played by a ruling elite.

So you think Americans will be happy to pay increased costs to cover the taxes associated with these new rules? The companies won't swallow them
I think that on balance people would be happier to have a well paid, secure job and not be up to their necks in debt.I lived in a country with a very high cost of living and some quite heavy restrictions/ tariffs on imports, for almost a decade. Strangely enough, people weren't grumbling about prices (which were generally quite a bit higher than the UK) because they had decent pay and good working conditions - and thus were able to afford one of the best standards of living around. The country also consistently featured around the top of the global happiness lists. But then what would the Swiss know?

A black guy from Chicago was part of the "ruling elite"?
