But they're EU sanctions. The oil wasn't from the EU, the ship wasn't from the EU, and the destination wasn't in the EU. Moreover I don't know which water the tanker was picked up in, but given how small the British waters are around Gibraltar its hard to believe the vessel was picked up there. If it was in Spanish waters, why didn't the Spanish stop it? Why did we have to do it? If it was in International waters then we have no more right to stop the vessel than the Iranians have to stop ours.

We’re weak just as we our in our home grown justice. We will try ‘diplomacy’. They will be laughing at us; we should be kicking arse
Given we impounded their tanker first, would you like a war if it was started by the Iranians (for taking their tanker hostage), or is it only OK to fight when they take one of ours? If the Americans wish to go to war, let them, we shouldn't have to be involved. The Iranians have, until very recently, stuck to the agreement made with the 6 EU countries plus the US. The US then chose to exit the deal and put sanctions on Iran. It is hardly surprising that Iran have responded, I think so far they have been very restrained and all it has shown is how ineffective the EU is in the face of 1 orange balloon in the White House and his decisions, which may or may not be sensible or appropriate.

Another question worth asking is “Just why do the Americans seem keen on having a war with the Iranians?”
